Hinterstoder: Cable Pull In Upper Austria's Largest Cable Car Project
An important step was taken in the construction of the new Hössbahn in Hinterstoder: The cable pull for the new 10-seater gondola lift to the Höss with final splicing of the cable. The major project is therefore on schedule. The new cable car should start operating directly from the parking lot in Hinterstoder by Christmas.
Upper Austria's largest cable car project
The operators are investing a total of 22 million euros in the largest cable car project in Upper Austria. The modern 10-seater gondola will further enhance the Hinterstoder location and offer all guests even more comfort, safety and shorter waiting times. Because: in practice, the new transport capacity corresponds to a 50% increase in capacity, with the 10-seater cabins 3,200 guests can then be transported per hour. "The new Hössbahn is a flagship project for local tourism and the Hinterstoder location," says Helmut Holzinger, CEO of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG.
Cable pull as an important milestone
After the erection of the supports and the valley and mountain stations, the cable pull is an important milestone in being able to complete the project on time by Christmas. The hoisting cable, which is 58 mm thick and weighs a total of 70 tons, was pulled onto the supports with an auxiliary cable. “Now the hoisting rope is being spliced. This means that after the rope has been laid, the ends are woven together," says Peter Hager, Technical Manager at Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG, describing this important step. As a result, the earthworks along the route will be completed and the two operating buildings in the valley and on the mountain will be completed. The first driving tests should then begin in the second half of November. “For us, the weather also plays a decisive role in the construction of the railway. Because we have to use daylight and for safety reasons we can't work with spotlights, for example on the supports. The nice weather period at the beginning of October was important for us to be able to keep to the schedule,” says Peter Hager.
About the new Hössbahn in Hinterstoder
The new Hössbahn is a gondola lift that can transport 3,200 guests per hour in 10-seater gondolas. In practice, the new transport capacity corresponds to a 50% increase in capacity and will thus lead to a significant reduction in waiting times for guests. The new location of the valley station, directly after entering the town at the large parking lot, means a much shorter and more comfortable route for all visitors. Another new feature is that the ski holders are on the inside, which means a significant time advantage when boarding. With a route length of 2,606 meters, a difference in altitude of 811 meters is overcome in a time of 6.5 minutes. The new cable car is an important step in order to meet the new requirements and to ensure the tourist attractiveness of Hinterstoder for the coming decades. Completion is scheduled for the end of the year, in time for the start of the Christmas holidays.
