Delaine & Co. Launches Downhill Racer Merino Wool Sweater

Delaine & Co., maker of domestically sourced ski sweaters, revisited Hollywood’s golden era with a modern take on a timeless design.

Inspired by the 1969 film of the same name, Delaine’s Downhill Racer Sweater brings merino wool to the style that once ruled the slopes of A-list celebrities.

“There’s an unmistakable glamor about that era of skiing,” said Delaine founder Scott MacKenzie. “We knew if we could recreate a piece of that with modern materials and manufacturing processes, we would be onto something special. There’s a renewed interest in having fewer high-quality long-lasting garments, and a Delaine sweater is made to last a lifetime.”

Delaine sweaters are “Made in the USA from 21-micron merino wool from Climate Beneficial verified wool,” contributing to a “rigorous climate-positive land stewardship program in the U.S.”

The Downhill Racer sweater is designed to be a mid-layer on cold days or worn as an outer layer on warmer spring days.

"I love those sweaters. Why don't they make them like that anymore?" This question, posed to Delaine founder by a fellow chairlift rider, launched the performance ski sweater brand Delaine & Co.

"I was on the Supreme chair at Alta a few days before Covid shut down the country in March 2020. It was a mild, sunny afternoon and I was wearing a tight-knit, boldly colored Merino wool sweater my parents gave me in 1976. The guy on the chair next to me asked me about the sweater, and we talked about how great the designs look. We also agreed that merino wool was the best mid layer on the planet - much better than the cheaper synthetic options more commonly worn today. That conversation got me hooked. Since day one, the focus has been to make sweaters for the downhill skier. They're made to be functional and comfortable, and designed for those not afraid to look good on a steep bump run, a groomed green circle, or the lodge.We hope you enjoy the sweaters and make sure to have fun out there."
