The Milestone Will Become The Niesen Summit In 2022

The MILESTONE, which was awarded for the first time in 2000, will not be continued. After 22 years of successful implementation, the sponsorship sees the right time to give new impetus to the promotion of innovation in tourism. The MILESTONE jury has decided to invite to the NIESEN SUMMIT - Innovation and Tourism in 2022. At the event of the MILESTONE winners, the best of the last 22 years will be chosen. In addition to the network exchange, other focal points for promoting innovation in tourism and an exchange for future innovation awards are planned.

Since 2000, the MILESTONE has recognized particularly innovative projects and personalities in the Swiss tourism landscape. The most important award in tourism stands for innovation, promotes the transfer of know-how and increases the attractiveness of Switzerland as a destination and publicity for our tourism industry. The foundation stone for the development of the MILESTONE was laid in 1999 by the htr hotel revue and HotellerieSuisse. SECO has supported the efforts via the Innotour program from the start.

A success story over 22 years

The competition has honored numerous innovations over the past 22 years and has been continuously developed. The sponsorship of the MILESTONE - consisting of the htr hotel revue and HotellerieSuisse as well as the SECO and the STV as tourism partners - has decided after intensive discussions to expand the sponsorship, not to continue the MILESTONE in the existing form. The tourism associations are considering what the promotion of innovation could look like in the future. However, this solution is not linked to the MILESTONE brand.

The NIESEN SUMMIT to top it off

Promoting innovation remains one of the core tasks of tourism. That is why the MILESTONE jury has set itself the task of organizing an event on the subject of "Tourism and Innovation" in 2022 as well. In 2022, the MILESTONE will become the "NIESEN SUMMIT 2022". All previous MILESTONE winners will be personally invited to nominate the ten best of all MILESTONE winners. From the top ten, the podium places for the most successful projects are honored and awarded at the Niesen.

Promotion of innovation: stay tuned!

Even without MILESTONE, promoting innovation in tourism will remain a top topic in 2022: At the day event on November 15, 2022, the NIESEN SUMMIT audience will receive a keynote speech to gain insights into the latest developments and the current state of knowledge on the topic. In addition, innovation in tourism is discussed and reflected on in various groups. In addition, the event on the Niesen summit offers the opportunity to maintain the network with the best view and to continue to exchange ideas about innovation in tourism.

The project group of the MILESTONE jury wants to make a contribution to the further development of the highly successful innovation award, which is well known beyond national borders.
