Green Light For Snowmaking On Corvatsch’s Hahnensee

The government has approved the partial revision of the local planning decided by the municipalities of St. Moritz (November 11, 2018) and Silvaplana (November 29, 2018). In doing so, she creates the planning prerequisites for the realization of a snowmaking system for the "Hahnensee descent" (Gian d'Alva - St. Moritz Bad) in the Corvatsch ski area.
The revision of the local planning includes the areas to be snowed on on the approximately 4.5 kilometer long downhill slope and the appropriate installations. In concrete terms, a total of 4.7 kilometers of water and air lines with around 57 tapping points and an additional snow-making area of around 58,000 square meters are planned. No adjustments will be made to the existing «Hahnenseeabfahrt» slope. The snow lances required for snowmaking are to be set up from around the end of September to mid-January and then taken down again.

The Hahnensee run is one of the best slopes in Engadin. This black slope stands out thanks to its unique panoramic views and tranquil location.

As soon as you get on the Giand’Alva chairlift, your anticipation for the Hahnensee run will be building. The ascent to Giand’Alva is an opportunity to relax and take a moment to yourself. But once you get to the top, the view of the icy lakes of Upper Engadin will take your breath away. The next part, carving your way down the wide, open, steep slope is always a pleasure. This nine-kilometre black slope is named after the Hahnensee lake, which sits covered with a thick sheet of ice between the fir trees, just at the tree line. The final section takes you through a snowy, fairy-tale forest to St. Moritz-Bad. You can return to the Surlej valley station on the Engadin Bus.
