Mammut Announces Second Annual Women’s Scholarship
Mammut, premiere mountain safety and outdoor brand, has announced their second annual women’s specific scholarship in partnership with the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). The recipient will be awarded a full AMGA scholarship in any mountain guide course or exam and receive a complete kit, including safety gear, from Mammut. As an AMGA partner since 1998, Mammut created this scholarship to support the advancement of women in the outdoor industry.
“As a brand that strives to make the outdoors a more inclusive space, we are continuing to prioritize how we assess and remove barriers between people and recreating in the outdoors. Mammut is proud to support women of all backgrounds as they work toward their goals with this scholarship,” said Mammut Marketing and CSR Account Manager, Nora Fierman. “Our scholarship program with AMGA and our support as the safety sponsor of the AIARE Women’s Mentorship Program are exciting opportunities to empower women to get out there and enjoy the outdoors.”
With only sixteen fully certified Mountain Guides who identify as women in the United States, Mammut is offering this AMGA scholarship to reduce barriers to entry in a traditionally male-dominated space. Mammut recognizes the importance of women and female-identifying representation in the outdoors and is pursuing a more inclusive space.
“The scholarship provides one woman the opportunity to complete one Mountain Guide course with full-tuition covered. A variety of barriers can prevent folks from entering and continuing their guide education, this scholarship removes financial barriers that hinder this process and makes a huge impact on someone’s education as a guide,” said AMGA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager Monserrat Alvarez. “We have a responsibility to support and uplift the communities within guiding that have historically not seen themselves as part of the community and continue to face barriers. We are striving towards a more diverse and inclusive guiding community where people of color, trans, adaptive, queer, and women are represented and supported.”
This scholarship is open to anyone who identifies as a woman and gender-expansive people who resonate with this opportunity. To apply for the scholarship, please complete the application linked below. Applications will remain open from March 8 – 21, 2022. The scholarship recipient will be announced on or before April 9.
In addition to the AMGA scholarship, Mammut will be donating 5% of all online sales each day between March 18 to 20 to the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) Women’s Mentorship Program. The Women’s Mentorship Program welcomes women across all levels of experience in the industry, builds networks, and provides a mentorship framework for participants to replicate in future peer and mentor relationships. Through their continued safety partnership along with initiatives including this Women’s Mentorship Program, AIARE and Mammut are working to make safety more accessible and break down the barriers for women in avalanche education.
“Mammut is a key player in the backcountry space. Having their support – not only by providing low-cost safety equipment to program participants – as well as their brand leadership puts a spotlight on the importance of gender equality in this growing profession,” said AIARE’s Executive Director Vickie Hormuth
