Galsterberg New 10-person Gondola Is Being Built

The idea of building a new main cable car on the Galsterberg has been around for some time, now it's fixed: after the approval of the resolutions by the Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen supervisory board on March 10, 2022, subject to official approval, it will be in the spring 2022 with the construction of the new and ultra-modern 10-seater EUB Galsterbergbahn. The opening is planned for winter 2022/23.

Maximum comfort for passengers

The new 10-seater gondola lift from ropeway manufacturer LEITNER ropeways replaces the 30-year-old group gondola lift and means great added value for the Galsterberg and the entire Schladming-Dachstein region. In the first expansion stage, up to 1,200 people/hour can be transported up the mountain, in the final expansion up to 1,800 people/hour. Waiting times are now a thing of the past. The spacious "EVO-Deep" cabins ensure maximum passenger comfort with upholstered individual seats and plenty of legroom. The total investment volume is around 11 million euros.

"With the new cable car on the Galsterberg, guests will be able to get from the valley to the mountain station in the most comfortable way in just six and a half minutes and thanks to the generous glass fronts they can enjoy a 360° all-round panoramic view," says the Planai Managing Director Dir. Georg Bliem, who can also imagine summer operations on Galsterberg in the future.

In addition to maximum comfort and a significantly higher transport capacity, value is placed above all on a station design with a regional focus. The mountain and valley station score with a building architecture in the "shingle look" and adapt perfectly to the landscape.

“The small but fine Galsterberg ski area is very popular with its guests and scores particularly well with families. With the new, state-of-the-art gondola lift, the Planai continues to invest in quality and provides more comfort. Such investments not only secure the wide range of winter sports in Styria, but also jobs in the region," says Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, Minister for Tourism.

With the new construction of the main cable car, the child-friendly and attractive valley descent, which was widened in the upper area last year, is being given an enormous upgrade and ensures optimal distribution of guests on the mountain.

"The Galsterberg has developed very well in recent years and the new construction of the main cable car is another important step towards securing the Galsterberg for the coming decades. A special thank you for the good cooperation and support goes to the landowners and the local population,” says Galsterberg Managing Director Mag. Peter Weichbold.

The Galsterberg - small, fine and diverse.

The company and ski area Galsterberg was founded 55 years ago, handed over by the state of Styria to Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen GmbH in 2003 under a management contract and finally 98% taken over by the company in 2007. As the easternmost ski area within the Schladming-Dachstein ski region, the Galsterberg in Michaelerberg-Pruggern is a small but fine ski area, which scores above all with its warmth and variety. In addition to a wide range of offers for families and children such as the Galstiland, the fun runs or the 5 km long natural toboggan run, the Galsterberg offers challenging pistes and a generous offer for skiers and tourers as well as for winter hikers.
Further planned projects in the Planai company

In the near future, other major projects will also be planned on other mountains in the Planai family. The gondola project to Rohrmoos and the renovation of the Dachstein cable car stations are in the final planning phase.
