Brignone Wins Zauchensee Super-G

Federica Brignone triumphed in the Zauchensee race, achieving her eighteenth career success. A fast Super-G (1'10"84) and a phenomenal performance by Federica, who brushed the turns of the central part, making the difference in the most technical part, fundamental in a race with very close gaps.

Corinne Suter (SUI) scared Federica, finishing just four hundredths behind the Italian, thanks to a super recovery in the final part. Ariane Raedler (AUT) conquered the first career podium with third place, and she was 17 hundredths behind the leader.

The Super-G standings speak Italian in the women's Alpine Ski World Cup. The first three positions in the Super G standing are occupied by the Italian women's with Sofia Goggia in the lead ahead of Federica Brignone and Elena Curtoni.

For the USA Keely Cashman finished 23rd on Sunday, Jan. 16, in the Zauchensee, Austria super-G, her first point-scoring finish since the 2020/21 season.

Cashman posted career-best results in the Val d'Isere speed series in December of 2020, improving on her downhill finishes in 16th and 17th to grab her first top 10 in the super-G. Soon after, a crash in training forced her to sit out the remainder of the World Cup season. Since her recovery, she's been fighting to regain confidence in a race on the World Cup circuit. Sunday's finish reminded her what she is capable of.

“I am really happy with the way I skied today," commented Cashman. "It has been a struggle trying to gain confidence back after my crash last season, so this result is a big step. I felt confident in myself today and was just able to send it and ski the way I know I can. This is another step forward, and I hope to take this feeling into Cortina next week.”

Teammates Mo Lebel and Tricia Mangan finished outside of points. Jackie Wiles and Alix Wilkinson did not finish. Breezy Johnson did not start due to a small injury sustained during training earlier in the week. The top three finishers of the day were Italy's Federica Brignone in first, Switzerland's Corinne Suter in second, and Austria's Arian Raedler in third.

Next, the women's speed circuit heads to the famed downhill track in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, as the men prepare to take on the Hahenkahm in Kitzbuehel, Austria.
