Costings For Patscherkofelbahn Released

Mayor Georg Willi presented the final invoice for the construction of the Patscherkofelbahn, which was presented to him by the management of Patscherkofel GmbH, in a press conference. A total of around 83 million was spent on the construction of the new Patscherkofelbahn, not including the costs for the adaptation of the old valley station for the Igl clubs and the construction of a toboggan run. The detailed statement of costs was also sent to the municipal councillors.
“Starting from the original calculation of 41 million, the costs have increased significantly. Since this is the tax money of the people of Innsbruck, it is clear to me that the final sum and the development of the costs must also be made accessible to the public," emphasized Mayor Willi during the press conference.

The project goes back to the past municipal council period. In 2014, the municipal council first decided to purchase the railway for 10.7 million (municipal council meeting on April 29, 2014). After the project was presented to the committee in October 2015, a budget of 41 million was estimated for the construction of the railway (without the purchase of the railway by 10.7 million) and approved by a majority (meeting on October 30, 2015). In 2017, a new cost statement for the project was presented to the municipal councils, which now stands at around 55 million (meeting on July 13, 2017). After the municipal elections in April 2018, the Innsbruck municipal council had to deal with the Patscherkofel project twice more: In June 2018, the necessary supplementary loan of eleven million was approved (meeting on June 14, 2018),

At the beginning of his term of office in 2018, Mayor Willi drew consequences from the cost development at the Patscherkofel by setting up the advisory board for major projects. The Advisory Board is made up of external experts and is consulted for projects of more than one million euros. From five million, there is a mandatory accompanying control. His tasks: Ongoing cost and project control.

“We know from the report by the Patscherkofel control office that, in addition to the high-rise buildings, the main price drivers were the politically controlled time pressure and the lack of controlling. The Major Project Advisory Board ensures that such financial disasters are avoided in the future," explains the mayor and continues: "The external control has proven its worth. In the current municipal council period, no project has gotten out of hand financially.”
