Trentino Is Not Only For Skiing But Also For Distinctive Music & Art Shows Happening This Winter
The northern Italian region of Trentino, hidden in the heart of the Italian Alps, is known for its mighty Dolomites (UNESCO World Heritage Site), picture-perfect landscapes, culture, and mouth-watering gastronomy. Winter in the Trentino region not only brings the joy of skiing, by providing 800 kilometres of fantastic slopes, well-groomed pistes and great snow conditions. But also, a great number of delightful music festivals and fantastic art exhibitions that will elevate any ski break.
Listen to unique music at the Ice Music Festival
The Ice Music Festival is coming back to Trentino on 5 January 2023 to warm up all music lovers with the sounds of delightful melodies performed with instruments entirely made from ice, created by the hands of American artist Tim Linhart. The shows will be held inside the 300-seat igloo - the EQ Ice Dome - located 2,700 meters above sea level on the Presena glacier, between Val di Sole and Lombardy. Every Thursday and Saturday afternoon up until 25 March 2023 attendees will get a chance to see and hear renowned Italian and international artists performing various musical styles such as rock, pop, country, folk, Irish, jazz, tango and classical music using unusual instruments entirely made from ice. As the instruments are made from ice, they sound sharper and brighter than traditional instruments, giving a nice upgrade to already beloved tunes. The unusual venue and the instruments without a doubt will make this a spectacular and one-of-a-kind music show.
Enjoy chilled rhythms of jazz at Dolomiti Ski Jazz 2023
The beautiful Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa slopes covered in a blanket of snow are not only skiers’ paradise. The Dolomiti Ski Jazz 2023, taking place from 3 to 12 March 2023, will take over the ski slopes, museums, theatres, and pubs of the two villages, where the festival will bring chilled rhythms of jazz to the mountains. The festival will offer around fifteen delightful concerts in the two valleys of Trentino. The visitors will get to enjoy delightful Jazz performed by internationally known musicians, guided by artistic director Enrico Tommasini.

Culture vultures will enjoy getting lost in the MART - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Rovereto and Trento – which is one of the most visited museums and a top destination for modern and contemporary art in Trentino. It is home to around 20,000 pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and installations, as well as temporary exhibitions, events, and workshops.
‘Giotto and the twentieth-century’ exhibition available until 19 March 2023 will feature 200 masterpieces by modern and contemporary artists inspired by the art of Giotto, a genius who revolutionised medieval painting. Divided into seven sections, the exhibition is set in chronological and thematic order, showcasing masterpieces by the great artist of the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition will display the works of renowned artists such as Carlo Carrà, Mario Sironi, Henri Matisse, Mark Rothko, Yves Klein and many more.
Until 5 February 2023, the MART is hosting a special Adelchi-Riccardo Mantovani ‘The Dream of Ferrara’ exhibition dedicated to the artist’s entire career. The exhibition displays over one hundred of Mantovani's works, perfectly capturing the artist’s art style developments throughout his career. During the exhibition, visitors will see the key moments of Mantovani's journey where he rediscovers the traditional values of art.
Available until 19 February 2023 ‘Heretics. Art and Life’ exhibition is based on men and women of the 20th and 21st centuries who pursued freedom of thought, often clashing with the mainstream sentiment. It is divided into thematic areas and examines heretic activity in television, film, visual art, literature and music. The exhibition will feature famous works created by many well-known artists, authors, intellectuals, writers, and musicians, selected by a group of well-known scholars, who went against the tide and were hindered, marginalised and sometimes banished from the social system.
