Six Swiss Ski Stars Nominated As Athletes Of The Year!

The sports year 2022 is coming to an end. As every year, the Sports Awards are just around the corner, where the most successful sports stars of the year are chosen - and after the extremely successful 2022 for Swiss-Ski, it is not surprising that several ski stars have the chance to take the coveted trophy home with them take. Six athletes are in the running for the title; nominated in the main categories athletes: in of the year are the following Swiss-Ski Stars:

Sportsman of the Year

Feuz and Odermatt compete against track and field athlete Simon Ehammer, swimmer Noè Ponti, mountain biker Nino Schurter and wrestling king Joel Wicki. In addition to the four Swiss-Ski athletes, the women can choose from track and field athlete Mujinga Kambundji and cyclist Marlen Reusser.

There will be a total of seven awards at the TV gala on December 11, 2022 on SRF 1, RTS 2 and RSI LA 2. The winners will be chosen in the live broadcast; the final result is made up of the election results of the sports media, the top athletes and the televoting, each one third. The live broadcast begins at 8:05 p.m.

With the Olympic victory in the downhill, Beat Feuz closed one last gap in his impressive palmarès. In the supreme discipline, the Emmentaler had already been able to wear World Cup gold in 2017. In addition, there are several victories in the biggest World Cup classics in Wengen and Kitzbühel and four triumphs in the discipline rankings. Appearing as the top favourite, Feuz withstood the pressure on the Olympic course in Yanqing and, four days before his 35th birthday, crowned his extraordinary career, which was marked by countless health setbacks. Feuz had gained the necessary self-confidence two weeks earlier with his third triumph in the Hahnenkamm downhill. At the end of the season he was only twelve points short of the fifth small crystal ball in his favorite discipline.

Marco Odermatt, Alpine skiing Greatest successes in 2022: Olympic gold in giant slalom, 1st overall World Cup, 1st giant slalom World Cup and 2nd Super-G World Cup, 16 World Cup podiums (including 7 victories)

Twelve years after Carlo Janka, thanks to Marco Odermatt, Switzerland again provided the overall World Cup winner this year. The 25-year-old native of Nidwalden earned the most important trophy in the Alpine Ski World Cup with consistently good performances – 16 podium finishes in three disciplines are proof of this. He scored five of his seven World Cup victories last winter in the giant slalom, the most important in front of a home crowd in Adelboden, after 14 years before that no local had been able to win a giant on the Chuenisbärgli. However, his gold medal won in the Olympic giant slalom had even more appeal - here too the first by a Swiss since Janka 2010. Odermatt did not let himself be thrown off the gold track even by a serious mistake in the first run.
