Sierra Nevada Opens New Emile Allais Chairlift On First Day Of 22/23 Season
Sierra Nevada has launched the new Emile Allais chairlift coinciding with the opening of the 2022/23 winter campaign that has had 780 skiers and 530 cabin or activity users, in which The Granada resort has made an investment of more than 20 million euros in actions aimed at improving the main facilities and services of the Granada ski resort.
The Minister of Development, Articulation of the Territory and Housing and president of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, Marifrán Carazo, has underlined the "enormous effort" of the winter season to launch the campaign, thanks, among other factors, to one of the most Highlights of the season: "The snow produced system, which this season has incorporated 105 new devices, allows the snow industry to get going in Granada, on which so many jobs depend."
“The beginning of the season is always complicated, but Cetursa and the Junta de Andalucía, with investments in last generation sustainable technology, have made it possible for the campaign to start today. From now on, growing in the ski offer is easier”, added Marifrán Carazo.
The opening of the season coincided today with the premiere of the new Emile Allais, a detachable six-seater chairlift that improves on the previous one in terms of capacity, speed, comfort and energy efficiency. The other lift that opens in a few days, the Alhambra chairlift, with characteristics similar to the Emile Allais -both co-financed with React EU funds-, will allow the reorganization of the Borreguiles beginners area through a better distribution of users and connection with other ski lifts in the resort.
"This is the largest investment in a season in Sierra Nevada - more than 20 million euros - and a renovation in mechanical means that is unprecedented in the recent history of the station," said the president of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, who, Together with the CEO Jesús Ibáñez, he verified the operation of the Emile Allais and wished "a great season" for workers, businessmen and users of the station.
Subsequently, Marifrán Carazo moved to the new Customer Service Office (OAC), which replaces the old general ticket offices, where from now on the ticket offices, ski pass dispensers and the Sierra Nevada user service will coexist.
The new Quesos de Suiza restaurant, located on the slopes (lower station of the Stadium chairlift) will open on the weekend of December 17.
For the rest, the resort started the campaign with open slopes in the Borreguiles initiation area (with 1.9 skiable kilometers and a skier capacity of 800 people to guarantee the safety and comfort of clients who go up to the slopes), with five mechanical means and snow activities for non-skiers at the Mirlo Blanco complex. The produced snow system continues to operate and concentrates production on the El Río slope for its eventual incorporation into the ski supply in the coming days.
