FWT Postpones Kicking Horse Event Due To Unsafe Snow Conditions
Following the latest updates regarding snow conditions in Kicking Horse Golden BC, the FWT, together with the Local Organization Committee, has decided to postpone the first competition of the season to February.
“It has been a challenging start to the winter at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, not only with a lower amount of snow than normal, but also with colder than normal temperatures. The combinations of these factors, along with a significant wind event earlier this season, leaves the FWT venue of Ozone in a state that is not yet safe to work in or produce any rideable lines for a competition. There is a change in the weather pattern coming, but there is also too much uncertainty with how much snow will arrive prior to the originally scheduled competition dates, and what the avalanche conditions will be. With safety as our number one concern, we feel the right decision is to postpone the competition dates.” Mike Rubenstein, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Area Manager
The Kicking Horse Golden BC Pro planned for January 13-18, 2023, will now be held on February 17-22, 2023.
Therefore, the season will kick off in Baqueira Beret on January 28th, 2023, with the Baqueira Beret Pro event.
The new competition calendar will take place as follows:
- Baqueira Beret Pro, Spain – January 28 - February 2
- Ordino Arcalís Pro, Andorra – February 4 - 9
- Kicking Horse Pro, Canada – February 17 - 22
- Fieberbrunn Pro, Austria – March 11 - 17
- Xtreme Verbier, Switzerland – March 25 - April 2
THE CUT will take place after stop three, which is now Kicking Horse Golden BC Pro. Athletes can qualify using results from two out of the first three events to secure a spot on the FWT Finals.
