Brunni Bahnen: Second Best Financial Year In The Company's History
Brunni-Bahnen AG closes a successful 2021/2022 financial year. Traffic revenue in winter is at the same level as last year, with summer business increasing slightly. The two restaurants are developing well. Those responsible are extremely satisfied with the result.
Despite the ongoing pandemic and the associated protective measures, those responsible at Brunni-Bahnen AG can look back on a strong-selling 2021/2022 financial year. “We expected a slightly weaker summer compared to the previous year because travel to nearby foreign countries was again possible without restrictions. However, we can be persuaded otherwise,” says Managing Director Roman Barmettler. Traffic revenue developed very positively after the first weather turbulences in May and June. The income from the summer business of TCHF 1,807 corresponds to an increase of 7.5% compared to an already strong summer of 2020. Brunni-Bahnen AG was also able to benefit from the Tiny House gondola. It was not only a magnet for guests during the summer months, but also ensured a high media presence at home and abroad.
Long ski operation
The winter months were also extremely successful: First entries/skier days increased by around 5.7% compared to the 2020/2021 winter season. With 117,189 entries, this is the highest value in ten years. This is due to the fact that the systems on the Klostermatte were in operation from the beginning of December to mid-March. The children's subscription in particular met with great demand. The offer is implemented together with the local retailer Achermann Sport and includes the Brunni ski subscription and ski rental. In winter 2021/2022, sales of this subscription recorded an increase of 48% compared to the previous year.
The mountain gastronomy is convincing
The gastronomy on the mountain and in the valley also writes impressive figures. With sales of TCHF 2,688, this is the highest income in the history of Bunni-Bahnen. Two restaurants and the kiosk at the Härzlisee and in the Yeti Park have contributed to this. This is an increase of 9.5% compared to the peak year 2018/2019. For the first time after the renovation in 2019, the Berglodge Restaurant Ristis was able to welcome the numerous regular guests as well as an increasing number of new guests without interrupting operations due to the pandemic. In the high season, the family and multi-bed rooms were fully booked.
Pleasing metrics
A total of around 235,000 guests visited Brunni and Klostermatte in the 2021/2022 financial year. This value is 8.3% above the five-year average. Total sales increased by 15.5% to TCHF 7'532 compared to the previous year. The EBITDA also developed positively with an increase of 5.5% to TCHF 1'646. After depreciation of TCHF 1,319, the Brunni Bahnen presented a profit of CHF 241,282 in the 2021/22 financial year, which is the same as in the previous year.
The healthy liquidity basis made it possible to reduce long-term borrowed capital by TCHF 1,100, and TCHF 367 was invested in projects and replacement buildings. The level of self-financing improves from 63% to 65%.
Due to the positive development for the 2021/2022 financial year, the Board of Directors will propose a tax-free repayment of the capital contribution reserves in cash in the amount of CHF 25 per share (corresponds to a dividend of 10% of the nominal value) to the Annual General Meeting. The general assembly of Brunni-Bahnen Engelberg AG will take place on October 25, 2022 in the Kursaal Engelberg.
