Spectacular Classics And New Formats: Cycling & MTB Events In Tyrol Summer 2022

In addition to the sporting challenge of a bike marathon or MTB event, both professionals and hobby athletes appreciate the opportunity to discover the most beautiful sides of Tyrol from the saddle. And so in the summer of 2022, numerous professional and general events invite you to share your enthusiasm for cycling with hundreds of other cycling enthusiasts. In addition to the spectacular "Tour of the Alps", there are also new formats on the program in addition to the classics. The most important events at a glance:

Tour of the Alps - April 18th to 22nd, 2022
5 stages, 719 kilometers and no less than 13,750 meters in altitude - as spectacular as the key data for this year's "Tour of the Alps" sound, the fifth edition of the internationally acclaimed event will also be in inspire athletes and fans alike again this year. More than 150 riders, including the crème de la crème of the international cycling scene, will embark on the demanding tour through the European region of Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino from April 18th to 22nd, 2022. Among others, 10 world teams will be there, such as INEOS Genadiers with Richie Porte, the Astana Quazaqstan team with Vincenz Nibali and Miguel Angel Lopez, or BORA-hansgrohe with Wilco Kelderman. New this year: The "Tour of the Alps" is now also part of the "UCI ProSeries".

Starting from Cles in Trentino, the unique tour leads via Primiero/S. Martino di Castrozza, Lana and Niederdorf continue to East Tyrol, where the last two stages lead via Kals am Großglockner to Lienz. Both athletes and spectators can look forward to numerous highlights along the route, which make the "Tour of the Alps" so special.

Dreiländergiro – June 26, 2022
3,000 cyclists from 30 nations fight for the best places at the Dreiländergiro every year, making the event one of the largest popular cycling races in Europe. In 2022 the 28th edition of the cycling marathon will take place, which will lead through Austria, Italy and Switzerland over a distance of 120 kilometers and 3,000 meters in altitude. The highlight for the participants is the Stelvio Pass - one of the most spectacular mountain pass roads in the Alps with the legendary 48 hairpin bends.

Kitzbühel Cycle Marathon – July 10, 2022
The Kitzbühel Cycle Marathon will take place for the second time in summer 2022, covering a distance of 216 kilometers and 4,600 meters in altitude. Although the spectacular cycling event is open to all amateur athletes, it requires the appropriate physical form and a well thought-out strategy. After all, after the Pass Thurn, the Gerlos Pass and the Kerschbaumer saddle, you still have to master the ascent to the Kitzbüheler Horn.

Arlberg Giro – July 31, 2022
At 150 kilometers and around 2,500 meters in altitude, the Arlberg Giro is one of the most demanding cycling races in the Alps. 1,500 participants dare to take on the challenging course, which, with the Silvretta High Alpine Road - a connection between Vorarlberg and Tyrol - has one of the most scenic pass roads in the Alps in store. Whoever reaches the highest point of the route, the Bielerhöhe at 2,032 meters, the fastest, can look forward to the title "King / Queen of the Mountain" in the mountain sprint classification there.

Ötztaler Cycle Marathon – August 28, 2022
Every year, 4,000 racing cyclists have a dream: to make it across the finish line of the Ötztal Cycle Marathon, the most demanding cycle marathon in the Alps. On a circuit with a length of 227 kilometers, the spectacular cycling event leads from Sölden over four Alpine passes to South Tyrol and back again. The participants have to conquer 5,500 vertical meters, the fastest make it to the finish in a record time of just over seven hours. The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon is known for its excellent organization and quality. Families, friends and those interested in cycling can follow the marathon via live stream again this year.

KitzAlpBike – 18th to 25th June 2022

Gravel Innsbruck - a festival for racing bikes, gravel and mountain bikers
A legacy of the UCI Road World Championships Innsbruck-Tyrol 2018 is the "Gravel Innsbruck - Ride with passion" on September 18, 2022 in Innsbruck. The bike festival is aimed at racing bikes, gravel and mountain bikers alike, because the most beautiful roads, paths and trails around Innsbruck are conquered as a real "multi terrain cycling" event. But that's not all, the Gravel Innsbruck offers highlights and special features such as driving on the Olympia Bobbahn Igls or the notorious Höttinger Höll with an 18% incline. As befits a real festival, a party zone with DJs, music and food trucks is also a must.
