Green Light For Modernization And Expansion Of The Ski Center In Bavaria’s Mitterdorf
The Mitterdorf ski center in the Freyung-Grafenau district is one of the largest ski areas in the Bavarian Forest. On Monday, March 28, 2022, it took a big step towards a successful future. The district council of the district of Freyung-Grafenau approved the modernization plans with a large majority. This clears the way for the planning approval and approval procedures, which are due to be completed this year.
Investments of 20 million euros are planned for the replacement of the Almberg chairlift with a detachable six-seater chairlift and the replacement of the small Almberg lift with a fixed four-seater chairlift, as well as the addition of summer offers, including a canopy tour and the longest flyline in Germany. The construction measures are to be carried out in 2023.
As early as 2019/20, Montenius Consult, together with the renowned engineering office Klenkhart & Partner ZT Consulting from Absam/Tyrol, created a master plan for a sustainable development of the ski center with year-round operation. Most recently, Montenius Consult supported the project with profitability calculations, which formed the basis for the decisions in the committees.
At the end of 2021, the government of Lower Bavaria had already decided to fund the project with 5.76 million euros. In 2019/20, Montenius Consult together with the renowned engineering office Klenkhart & Partner ZT Consulting from Absam/Tyrol prepared a master plan for a sustainable development of the ski center, which is of enormous importance for the regional tourism industry.
The plan calls for investments of 20 million euros: the replacement of the Almberg chairlift with a detachable six-seater chairlift in 2023, the replacement of the Kleine Almberglift with a fixed-grip four-seater chairlift in 2024, and the addition of summer attractions, including a canopy tour and Germany's longest flyline.
At its meeting on Dec. 13, 2021, the Freyung-Grafenau County Council approved the plans by a majority of 43-3 votes. Montenius Consult prepared the profitability calculations and also presented analyses of the climatic situation in Mitterdorf compared to other low mountain ranges at the meeting. These analyses confirmed the special advantages of the location of the ski area, which is also known as the "Glacier of the Bavarian Forest". A few days later, the government of Lower Bavaria issued the grant notification.
