Candidates For FIS President & Council Announced

Following the deadline for National Ski Associations to submit nominations for FIS President and the FIS Council, FIS is pleased to announce it has received one nomination for the FIS Presidency, and 23 nominations for the FIS Council.

Current FIS President Johan Eliasch (GBR) will run unopposed in the upcoming elections. The elections will be held during the General Assembly on the 26th May at the FIS Congress in Milan (ITA) and online. The term for the FIS President runs from 2022-2026.

The FIS Council, which has a two-year term from 2022-2024, will consist of 21 members including; the FIS President, 18 elected members and two Athlete Representatives.

New to the FIS Statutes since the last election are the regulations that there must be a minimum of three male or female representatives on the FIS Council. Additionally, a minimum of one representative will come from a nation with two votes and a minimum of one representative will come from a nation with one vote.

Hannah Kearney (USA - Freestyle Skiing) and Martti Jylha (FIN - Cross Country). They have been appointed by their fellow Athletes’ Commission members and confirmed at the FIS Congress “2020” until 2023.

Next Steps

Each new Council Candidate will have the opportunity to give a five-minute presentation to the General Assembly.

On the FIS Congress General Assembly Day on May 26th, the election of the FIS President will be held first, followed by the election of the 21 FIS Council members.

The FIS President and FIS Council are elected by the voting members of the FIS Congress General Assembly, which is comprised of the National Ski Associations.
