La Rosiere Developments For Oncoming Season
During winter 2018, la Rosière-Espace San Bernardo area accumulated more than 11m of snow. Only a few kilometers
as the crow flies from the Mont Blanc and the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, the resort benefits from favourable weather
conditions which guarantee an excellent snowfall from mid-December until end of April and makes it the resort with
the highest snowfall in France.
On the snowfronts or from your accommodation, you will find yourself on the balcony of the Tarentaise, with a fully
south facing view spanning more than 180°. Enjoy the sunsets and the resourcing light.
Since 1984, the Espace San Bernardo links La Rosière with La Thuile in Italy. This is unique in the Northern A lps. A journey to discover on skis, bringing new panoramic views and a similar culture which, at the same time is so
different.
Committment to the environment
The resort is committed to planting 1500 trees over 3 years. The shoots come from Bourg Saint Maurice (15km away) and this initiative is accomplished by a partnership with the ONF (National Office of Forests) and a budget of €8000/year.
Why plant trees? Trees are natural regulators of our ecosys- tem, they purify the atmosphere by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing back oxygen. Their foliage and root systems fil- ter water. They play a stabilizing role for the soil by avoiding erosion whilst also sheltering various forms of flora and fauna. By releasing water vapor into the atmosphere, trees also par-ticipate towards regulating extreme temperature differences. This phenomenon impacts the degree of local humidity and helps against extreme climate variations.
The principal contributor of greenhouse gasses from a ski resort (57%)* is the transport of people towards their holiday destina- tion… one more reason to choose the train, the only carbon-free solution. La Rosière is mindful of the ecological impact that its activity can cause on the environment and promotes offers to attract people into arriving by more ecological transportation. For all the travellers arriving by train at the Bourg Saint Mau- rice train station, a 15% reduction is offered off their next 2 day or longer Espace San Bernardo lift pass**; Direct TGV trains from Paris connect in 5 hours with Bourg Saint Maurice. By looking after the planet, La Rosière is looking after its visitors. The elected representatives from the region of Auvergne-Rhô- ne-Alpes and Savoie are rallying for the continued running of the Eurostar ski resort connections. The ski train is greatly appreciated by British clients for both comfort and ecological reasons, it represents an alternative to traveling by plane in a context of global warming and Covid-19.
- Staff are taught how to operate the chairlifts and slope groo- ming machines in an eco-friendly way.
- Some of the ski lifts are closed (when there are two drag lifts together, for example) or slowed down during quiet periods to reduce their energy consumption without affecting customer satisfaction.
- The production of artificial snow is carefully considered and optimised to save water, thanks to a tool that has been fitted to the slope grooming machines which measures the depth of the snow cover in real time (SNOWSAT).
- An environmental observatory has been set up to reference and preserve the local flora, fauna and fragile areas of land.
- Skiers and pedestrians on the ski area are invited to take any rubbish with them and dispose of or recycle it back down in resort, so that everyone plays their part in helping to protect the environment.
New Hotes and chalets
ALPEN LODGE HOTEL****
The hotel and spa is made up of 27 remarkably elegant and spacious bedrooms and suites (from 26m2 to 129m 2).
Like the residence, the hotel benefits from a prime location just a few steps from the Eucherts chairlift. The restaurant offers a wide menu choice with friendly piano bar evenings at the M’Bar. (in the process of 4* classification).
CLUB MED LA ROSIÈRE
The famous and historical French brand has chosen La Rosière to build its new 4 trident Club. Located on the pistes, the stone and wood clad Club Med Resort overlooks the valley. The interior Savoyard design style tells the fabulous story of the mythical Petit Saint-Bernard Col and the traversing of the Alps by Hannibal with his elephants
and also of pilgrims on the high mountain passes. The rooms are very spacious and the 650m2 SPA beckons
relaxation with its CINQ MONDES (5 worlds) treatments.
LE DIAMANT DES CIMES
A new four-star holiday residence (rating to be confirmed) with 13 apartments, ranging from 2 to 4 bedrooms, and stunning views of Mont Pourri. The free shuttle buses, which stop just outside the building, take guests to the slopes in the Centre and Les Eucherts in just 5 minutes. A wellness area with a sauna, hot tub and gym is also available, as well as parking spaces with charging stations for electric cars.
New Restaurants
LA BRENVA
“Brenva” means “larch wood” in the Aosta Valley dialect, and this is the very essence of the restaurant’s concept: everything is cooked on a log fire, either on a grill or in an oven, using various types of wood to give a different flavour to the meat (French breeds, Kobe beef, Black Angus, etc.), fish, vegetables and other side dishes. They also cater for vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan diets. The portions are adapted to children, so that they can choose from the same high-quality selection as their parents! The restaurant is located in the 4-star Alpen Lodge hotel and boasts a sunny terrace with beautiful views of Mont Pourri.
LE BORÉAL
A new restaurant in the heart of the resort (in the Hotel Sky La Rosière) is on hand to titillate your taste buds. With its cosy decor and friendly atmosphere, it serves gourmet cuisine and Savoyard specialities.
#TOUTPOUDRE
A brand-new mountain restaurant with outstanding views of Mont Pourri is opening on the ski area this winter, right by the Lac de Repos lake in summer. Its prime location means it is accessible on foot from Les Eucherts or on skis. Serving local produce in an idyllic setting, it is the ideal place to enjoy a drink or something to eat on the terrace or inside, next to the log fire.
- OriginAlps are offering a new ski touring experience from La Rosière. The skiers warm up on the Espace San Bernardo’s slopes as they make their way to the Pont de La Marquise on the Petit Saint-Bernard pass, then they tackle the 700m ascent up to the Passage des Trois Moines. After skiing a lovely 1,500m descent, they spend the night in the Gîte de Versaya.
- The chalet is privatised for each group, and guests can make the most of the log fire, hot tub and simple Savoyard dishes. The following day, the group explores the ski touring itineraries in this untamed landscape, far away from any ski lifts.
- In partnership with the ski schools, La Rosière-Espace San Bernardo is organising “Tuesday touring tasters”: Evening outings to give an introduction to the sport. Supervised by the instructors, beginners can learn the different techniques: such as how to attach the seal skins under the skis or how to best manage your energy and effort whilst climbing. A unique nocturnal outing after the pistes close and rewarded by a Savoyard snack in the forest.
Information can be found at the ski schools - The Safety Shred Days, presented by Victor Daviet (Salomon pro rider) have landed in La Rosière. The biggest French freeride gathering will take place between the 5th and 9th January 2022 in this Franco-Italian ski resort, with its mission being mountain rescue and preventive actions. This event is both fun and educational, with an affordable price. In a friendly setting, the participants will be able to be trained in the search for avalanche victims, supervised by professionals from ANENA (National Agency for the Study of Snow & Avalanches) and of big names from the world of snowboarding (Victor De Le Rue, Thomas Delfino, Marion Haerty…). The days are filled with conferences, workshops on the snow with real life situations and a banked slalom by HO5 Park in a uniquely fun and competitive format for all levels.
The opening of the Mont Valaisan sector increases the field of possibilities, with new technical freeride routes. Continuing on from this development, La Rosière welcomes this winter 3 freeride competitions including the prestigious Freeride World Qualifier
La Rosiere is the most Italian of the French ski areas, the best of both worlds
