OSV Sets The Course For The Future With Roswitha Stadlober As New President

Following the resignation of ÖSV President Karl Schmidhofer after only 100 days in office Roswitha Stadlober will be the new OSV president. The 59-year-old explained his sudden resignation: “My 35-year-old son was unexpectedly torn from his previous life by a stroke. As a father, you are concerned about how this will develop and how you can support it."

In today's presidential conference, those responsible for the Austrian Ski Association unanimously decided how the ÖSV will position itself in future. In order to meet the extensive challenges of the future, the most successful sports association in Austria relies on a management team. As president, Roswitha Stadlober will preside over the ÖSV and speak for it. At her side, Patrick Ortlieb will take over the management of all corporations, together with Secretary General Christian Scherer, as financial advisor. Ortlieb is thus responsible for the association's economic interests. GS Scherer will continue to lead the operational area.

As the next step, an extraordinary country conference will be convened for October 15, 2021 with the election of the presidium and Roswitha Stadlober will be formally elected as the new ÖSV President on Friday

Stadlober was one of the world's best slalom racersin the 1980s . Initially, she also raced GS, in which she also won her first World Cup points with 13th place (starting number 59!) On March 12, 1980 at the season finale in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. 

Her first World Cup victory cwas elebrated on 8 March 1983 slalom in Waterville Valley (USA). This victory was followed by seven more in the years to come. In 1986 she won the Slalom World Cup for the first time thanks to four victories this season in Sestriere , Maribor and Saint-Gervais-les-Bainsand in Waterville Valley. On November 26, 1983, she was the slalom winner at the World Series of Skiing in Bormio, which was only part of the Nations Cup .

Her first "little globe" in slalom came with her victory in the last competition of the season on March 18, 1986 in Waterville Valley, where she went from 11th to victory in the second run. With that she got - like Erika Hess - on 110 points, but had four wins that season (Hess had two).

At the 1987 World Championships in Crans-Montana , she won the silver medal in slalom behind the Swiss Erika Hess. At that time gold was within the scope of the possibilities. After the first run she was 1.33 seconds ahead, but in the second run she was caught by an unleashed Hess by 0.25 seconds. In her last season in 1988 she was again victorious in the Slalom World Cup. In the absence of the previous leader Vreni Schneider , who fell a few days earlier in the same place in the (then canceled) descent and was seriously injured with an inner ligament tear in her right knee , she led the slalom in Aspen on March 6tha quadruple success for Austria; this only win of the season brought her to first place in the slalom classification with 86 points.

Then she announced her retirement. She contested her last race on March 27, 1988 in the parallel slalom, which was only part of the Nations Cup, at the season finale in Saalbach, where she was third by beating Brigitte Oertli.

On December 22, 1986, she was voted Austria's Sportswoman of the Year 1986 by the Austrian sports journalists with 1,617 votes. 

Roswitha Steiner is married to the former world-class cross-country skier Alois Stadlober ; the cross-country skier Teresa Stadlober is her daughter, Luis Stadlober her son. From 1999 to 2004 she was sports spokesperson for the ÖVP in the Salzburg state parliament . She is a founding member and managing director of the KADA association, which deals with career advice and work integration for high-performance athletes. KADA is a non-governmental, non-profit association which strives to ensure that elite athletes have secure and fulfilling prospects for the future – by promoting the feasibility of combining sports with education or vocational training. KADA is thus not a safety net but an important partner for athletes to forge their own paths. 

To this day, she regularly competes in sports and marathons .
