Arosa Holiday Region Is Coping With The Corona Crisis Well

Arosa Tourismus presented positive annual accounts at their general assembly. Thanks to a strong summer 2020, the number of overnight stays continues to show an upward trend. Roman Geiser, Arosa regular guest, was confirmed as a new board member.
Pascal Jenny, the new President of Arosa Tourism, presented a positive business result to this year's General Assembly. The guest ax bill shows a loss of CHF 29,794.53 with income of CHF 7,132,092.51 and expenses of CHF 7,161,887.04. The marketing invoice 2020/21 closes with income of CHF 2'072'723.80 and expenditure of CHF 2'010'783.93 with an income surplus of CHF 61'939.87. As of April 30, 2021, the balance sheet shows equity of CHF 532,341.21, which corresponds to 9.81% of the balance sheet total.
Strongest summer ever
Overnight stays rose by 3.7% in the 2020/21 financial year. This is thanks to the strong summer 2020, which closed at a record level with around 30% more overnight stays. In Corona times, Arosa's guest focus “Switzerland” and the well-known experience innovations were rewarded. Many domestic guests visited Arosa. According to surveys, the above-average increase in guests is mainly based on the high level of awareness and the Arosa Bear Sanctuary. For families, the most comprehensive all-inclusive guest offer in the Alps was often the reason for choosing the Arosa holiday region. The performance development in the field of hike & bike, which the municipality, the mountain railways and tourism have implemented in recent years in addition to the nature and animal protection positioning, ideally strengthens the “bear destination”.
Roland Schuler replaces Pascal Jenny as Arosa Tourism Director
After the 2020/21 financial year, Pascal Jenny resigned from his position as Director of Tourism. After almost 13 years of full commitment to the Arosa holiday region, the tourism expert saw the time had come to switch from the operational to the strategic level. Roland Schuler took over the operational helm as a long-term deputy on May 1, 2021 and has already developed effectively in the new role.
Focus on further development
The Arosa Tourism team stands for stability and reliability. Continuity as the basis for further success is at the center of the future direction of Arosa Tourism. Under the direction of Roland Schuler and his deputy Marion Schmitz, the upswing in summer tourism is to be expanded and further developed. With the Arosa Bear Sanctuary and the extensive offers for family, hiking and biking experiences, a strong foundation has been created in recent years, which enables further added value.
Sustainability strategy
With its commitment to animal welfare, Arosa has already taken a large, concrete and differentiating step towards holistic sustainability. But in the context of climate change, shorter seasons and a declining affinity for snow sports, continuous sensitization, cooperation, experience, knowledge and product development in connection with sustainability are required. This is now being tackled concretely with the destination-wide sustainability strategy “Arosa 2030”. The topic of sustainability has been a priority in Arosa for many years. It is only logical that the quality of the tourist experience and sustainability will be developed consistently and according to plan. Sustainability means: Conscious use of the available resources and a simultaneous focus on ecological, economic and social aspects - so that future generations also have the necessary resources available and can experience the impressive diversity of nature. The credo is: “Sustainable, but enjoyable”.
Announcement «Sustainability Congress - be responsible!»
As part of Arosa 2030, Arosa Tourismus will hold the first sustainability congress in autumn 2022 together with selected specialists and competent partner companies. The congress is all about assuming responsibility and concrete implementation activities. More details on the national and cross-industry initiative will be published towards the end of the year.
Common digital ecosystem for Arosa Lenzerheide
In a digitized future, traditional tourism offers are confronted with new rules of the game. Markets are more closely networked and exposed to significantly faster change cycles. The constantly changing competitive and customer landscape requires new business models. Despite or perhaps because of the current pandemic, Arosa is convinced that the future offers considerable growth opportunities. With "al.digital" the four companies Arosa Bergbahnen AG, Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG, Arosa Tourismus and LMS AG started a comprehensive digitization project. With a digital ecosystem, the guest experience is to be placed in the foreground in the future by standardizing, upgrading and simplifying access to all offers and information.
New board member Roman Geiser
On the board of Arosa Tourism, in addition to the previous board members, Arosa regular guest and communications specialist Roman Geiser will be another competent person on the board. The openness to closely include specialist knowledge in strategic tasks shows the consistency in the activities of Arosa Tourism in order to remain at the forefront of alpine tourism in the future.
