Helly Hansen’s Odin Infinity Insulated Jacket Wins Outside Magazine’s Gear Of The Year Award
Helly Hansen is proud to have received Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Year Award for its men’s and women’s Odin Infinity Insulated Jacket, which launches this Fall/Winter season. The jacket will feature in the magazine’s upcoming 2022 Winter Buyer’s Guide. Arguably one of the top Gear of the Year awards in the US, the award is known for its extremely competitive testing and is reserved for the best of the best. This year, more than 100 jackets were tested over five months, recognizing the Odin Infinity Insulated Jacket’s outstanding performance and design – including Helly Hansen’s most innovative and sustainable waterproof/breathable technology to date, LIFA INFINITY PRO.
This is the third time the Norwegian-based brand’s Odin collection has won the Gear of the Year Award – originally winning in 2011 and again in 2017. In addition, the win adds to a long list of other awards the jacket has received in 2021. The product was also named winner of an ISPO Gold Award, Outdoor Retailer Innovation Award and a Red Dot Award earlier this year.
Outside Magazine Buyer’s Guide team said: “Shell technology has reached new heights. [The Odin Infinity] held strong shouldering skis and hitching snowmobile trailers. Meanwhile, the 80-gram synthetic insulation (100-gram on the women’s version) was just enough to keep testers toasty but not clammy during intense exertion.”
Featuring LIFA INFINITY PRO, Helly Hansen’s most innovative and sustainable waterproof/breathable technology to date, the Odin Infinity Insulated Jacket uses a fully waterproof/breathable LIFA INFINITY membrane and durable water-repellent performance, achieved without the use of chemicals. Using LIFA technology, a proprietary Helly Hansen fiber that is lightweight and hydrophobic, the new membrane is combined with 100% LIFA face fabric, creating a revolutionary technology that meets the extreme waterproofness and breathability of HELLY TECH Professional construction. With everlasting water-repellent protection that never needs to be reproofed with chemical treatment after use, this jacket is durable and long-lasting while still delivering superior professional grade performance.
As the brand trusted by professionals, Helly Hansen also collaborated with search-and-rescue professionals to develop the jacket. Working in challenging and unpredictable conditions, they identified the need for an insulated shell jacket that could keep them warm while also being lightweight for long missions on the mountain. As a result, the jacket also features Helly Hansen’s LIFALOFT insulation, which is lighter and still warmer than standard insulation – making it ideal for search-and-rescue professionals and ski tourers alike. While the women’s jacket features a specific design with additional LIFALOFT insulation to cater to different physiological temperature requirements.
“We take our role of working with professionals to develop gear very seriously. Being able to leverage their experience and feedback allows us to develop award-winning gear they can trust, like the Odin Infinity Insulated Jacket,” says Jayna McParland, Design Manager for Mountain at Helly Hansen. “We are honored to be awarded Outdoor Magazine’s Gear of the Year Award and look forward to continuing to innovate our gear for outstanding performance and innovation in the future.”
The jacket also includes multiple pockets and an integrated whistle attached to the zipper puller on the chest pocket – both added thanks to the feedback and testing provided by search and rescue professionals. In addition, it features hood and cuff adjustments, articulated elbows and a Recco® reflector for added safety, allowing the wearer to be searchable to rescuers.
Available in both men’s and women’s specific styles, the Odin Infinity Insulated Jacket is available in-store and online this Fall 2021.
