Stresa-Mottarone Tragedy - Leitner Deeply Saddened Company At Full Disposal To Identify The Causes As Soon As Possible
Leitner is deeply saddened by the Stresa-Mottarone tragedy. The South Tyrolean company extends its deepest condolences to the victims’ families.
The most recent magnetic rope testing was performed in November 2020 and no irregularities were detected. The entire system was overhauled in August 2016, including the cabins, carriages, drive and electrical equipment.
All ropes of ropeways are subjected to frequent visual checks. The integrity of the entire rope, including the interior of the rope, must be ensured. According to strict maintenance schedules, the ropes are therefore also inspected magnetic-inductive. A magnetic field is applied to the rope to determine its internal condition. Once these checks have been performed, the results are validated by USTIF (special office for fixed transport systems)
The ropes are checked every November, and every inspection has had a positive outcome. Leitner performs special and standard maintenance on the StresaMottarone ropeway, while daily and weekly operating checks are carried out by the operating company Ferrovie del Mottarone.
Our company extends its deepest condolences to the victims’ families, and to all affected communities. Leitner and its technicians are at full disposal to identify the cause of this terrible tragedy as soon as possible”, said Anton Seeber, president of Leitner.
