Kitzbuhel Bikes Cross-Regional Working Group Has Big Plans

The initiative of Kitzbühel Tourismus, the Kitzbüheler Alpen - Brixental Tourist Association and Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel proves that church tower thinking has had its day since Covid. A groundbreaking step for future product development was taken in the year of the tourist crisis. A cross-regional working group takes care of the topic of mountain biking and aims to co-creatively involve the most diverse interest groups in this development.
If the Kitzbühel region has established itself as a high-quality hiking region for years, the bike topic has been dealt with in different ways so far. The increasing popularity of cycling and the resulting, partial conflicts of interest have now moved the partners in Kitzbühel to promote holistic and collaborative development.
Bike ARGE RegionNEW
A first round table with numerous stakeholders and their wishes was set up in the previous year. On the basis of this, they are now working on a holistic approach, which aims to steer hikers, bikers and quiet areas in a forward-looking manner.
Kitzbühel Tourism Managing Director Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser welcomes the development of an overall concept in the field of biking and hiking: Sustainably integrating all those involved in any destination development is a success factor for the future. I am delighted that we are taking a first step in trend-setting product development with this working group. "Bergbahn Board Member Mag. Anton Bodner is equally enthusiastic about this initiative:" One of our central themes in summer is the high-quality range of bikes. Last summer showed us that our bike trails in Kitzbühel and Kirchberg are particularly popular. From now on, KitzSki is also a partner of the Gravity Card, a network card for the 22 most renowned bike parks in Europe. "
Kurt Tropper, Deputy Managing Director of the Kitzbüheler Alpen - Brixental Tourism Association is pleased about the supra-regional cooperation: “Developing our region sustainably, using available resources and being careful with nature is the motto of the hour. How well we master this together now is ultimately the success of tomorrow's destination. "
For project manager Bernd Brandstätter, this approach gives the opportunity to take measures together with stakeholders and property owners to improve the quality of the existing paths and to connect the individual cycle paths in a way that conserves resources.
Due to the cross-regional, jointly steering project character, the project is also financially supported by the regional management regio3 and the regional management of the Kitzbüheler Alpen.
Slow traffic concept as the next step
As part of the strategy development, the Bike ARGE is developing a future-oriented "low-speed traffic concept". Traffic counts using mobile phone and Komoot data as well as statistical counting systems show who is on the move where. In addition to the unbundling of the bike and hiking trails, new joint bike connections are planned for the future.
