Next Steps

In the next days, FIS will undertake a full background check and review all documents from each Candidate and confirm their eligibility to serve as the FIS President or on the FIS Council. Each Presidential Candidate will have the opportunity to give a 10-minute presentation to the General Assembly at the 52nd International Ski Congress, which will be held online due to the current Covid-19 situation. Additionally, each new Council Candidate will have the opportunity to give a five-minute presentation to the General Assembly.

On the FIS Congress General Assembly day on June 4th, the election of the FIS President will be held first, followed by the election of the 16 FIS Council members. Three of the Presidential Candidates, Mats Årjes, Johan Eliasch and Urs Lehmann have also been nominated as Council Candidates should they not be elected as President.

The FIS President and FIS Council are elected by the voting members of the FIS Congress General Assembly, which is comprised of the National Ski Associations. The term-length of all elected individuals is until the 53nd FIS Congress, scheduled for late Spring 2022.

Also on the FIS Council are two athlete representatives. Hannah Kearney (USA - Freestyle Skiing) and Martti Jylha (FIN - Cross Country) have been appointed by their fellow Athletes’ Commission members for the upcoming term and will have to be confirmed by the FIS Congress.

The FIS Congress General Assembly will be open to the public and a You Tube link will be made available for those interested in viewing as the Congress nears.
