CEO Handover At Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG
Thomas Küng has been the new CEO of Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG since June 2021. His predecessor Peter Engler has been at his side in an advisory capacity over the past few weeks and is now spending his last days in Lenzerheide. He is leaving the company at the end of June after a total of nine years in which he played a key role in the strong development of the mountain railways.
"When I took up my position at LBB AG nine years ago - back then as Head of Administration and Deputy CEO - I didn't know what was in store for me. And then the time has come that I have to say 'goodbye'. The time has passed quickly when I was able to experience a lot ", writes Peter Engler in an industry info to the service providers in the Lenzerheide holiday region. He will leave Lenzerheide with a laughing, but above all with a crying eye. He would also like to thank everyone - especially the LBB AG employees - who have accompanied him on his way over the past few years. The thanks can also be felt on the other side, at LBB AG: in Peter Engler, LBB AG is losing an extremely committed and loyal CEO, who has played a key role in shaping and shaping the fortunes of LBB AG over the past nine years. The BoD and its employees will miss him. I sincerely wish him all the best for his future,”says Felix Frei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of LBB AG.
A merger and big investments
The technical connection to Arosa in the form of the Urdenbahn already existed before Peter Engler took up the office as CEO, but the cooperation between the two mountain railway companies still had to be developed in various areas such as personnel, cash register or tariff systems. "Peter Engler brought the physical connection to Arosa to life with great personal commitment and tirelessly and consistently pushed the implementation across the mountain," says Felix Frei. It is thanks to him that the cooperation today is at such an open, transparent and trusting level, said the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
In addition to the merger with Arosa, various large investment projects have also been on Engler's agenda in recent years. This includes the construction of the Churwalden portal with the new Heidbüel panorama lift, the construction of the Obertor chairlift in Parpan (east-west connection between the two sides of the valley in Lenzerheide) and the renovation of the Motta hut. Various investments in snowmaking systems were also made during Engler's time as CEO.
From Engelberg to Lenzerheide
So there are no small footsteps that Engler's successor Thomas Küng is following. The 40-year-old from Lucerne is a specialist: after completing his Master of Arts in Management at the University of Friborg, he gained extensive experience in strategy consulting and conception for mountain railways, tourism organizations and railway companies as deputy managing director and project manager at grischconsulta AG in Chur, before he successfully steered the fortunes of the Brunni-Bahnen in Engelberg as managing director for nine years. As part of a consulting mandate for the development of LBB AG's corporate strategy 13 years ago, Küng also got to know his new employer back then.
