Doppelmayr Installs Cable Car For The Floriade Expo 2022
For visitors to the internationally known and popular flower and garden exhibition, the Floriade Expo 2022, a varied exhibition area is currently being built in Almere. True to the motto “Growing Green Cities”, a cable car from Doppelmayr / Garaventa was chosen as a sustainable means of transport. It connects the northern and southern parts of the site, spans the A6 motorway and offers passengers a lot of comfort and the latest cable car technology.
Visitors to the Floriade Expo 2022 will float 35 meters above the exhibition grounds. A cable car over a length of 850 meters will connect the southern part of the Floriade Park with the northern part. Visitors will have a fantastic view of the unique allotment garden exhibition during the 5-minute drive. The arboretum with trees, plants, bushes and flower fields and all other sights can be admired from an extraordinary perspective - from above. In addition, as one of the highlights of the Floriade, the cable car will be a unique opportunity to experience the potential of urban cable cars.
Sven Stimac, Chief Operating Officer at the Floriade: “The cable car will be an attraction for the guests of the Floriade. It makes it possible to cross the more than 60 hectare Floriade site and the A6 in a very short time and at the same time to enjoy the landscape architecture in peace. With this means of transport we can also optimally distribute the flow of visitors on the Floriade site. The cable car is a very attractive and comfortable means of transport. "
Completion by mid-2021
Construction of the cable car from the manufacturer Doppelmayr / Garaventa and the engineering consultancy organization Arcadis started in November 2020. The completion is expected to be in June 2021. This means that visitors to the Floriade and those interested can get an impression of a ride on the cable car before the fair and follow the development of the site from a bird's eye view.
Green mobility
Together with the Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group, Arcadis, the city of Almere and other trade fair partners, the Floriade sets the tone for green mobility solutions. During the exhibition, the Floriade will present various green mobility solutions, including the cable car. For example, visitors from the Esplanade can take an electrically powered canal boat to the Floriade.
“The cable car fits perfectly with the topic of 'Growing Green Cities', as it is a sustainable means of transport. For example, with its electric motor housed in the stations, it does not produce any exhaust gases or fine dust during operation and it is very quiet. With just two stations and seven supports, the cable car also takes up very little space.
After the Floriade, the cable car will be dismantled and then used again elsewhere, ”says Stimac.
Accessibility for all guests
The cable car will run directly over the Floriade site. Both stations will be at ground level and easily accessible via various footpaths and bike paths. It is completely barrier-free and very easily accessible for all guests - including the elderly, visitors with wheelchairs or prams, etc. The entry and exit areas in the stations are laid out separately from each other, which ensures an optimal flow of people.
Unique challenge
The cable car will run over the A6. That is unique in the Netherlands. In spring 2021, the motorway will be temporarily closed to the cable pull. When traveling with the completed cable car, crossing the A6 will be a special experience.
