First Anniversary Of The V-Cableway: Taking Visitors To The Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe
Comfort, quality and innovation - the V-Cableway experience has been offering all this and much more to all guests for a year now. Whether transferring from the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB), lingering and shopping in the Grindelwald Terminal, taking the Männlichen cable car or the Eiger Express with breath taking views of the Eiger North Face, or transferring to the Jungfrau Railway at Eigergletscher: the new railways and modern buildings are met with much enthusiasm by guests. On Saturday, 4 December 2021 and Sunday 5 December 2021, Jungfrau Railways celebrated the 1-year anniversary of the V-Cableway with a musical toast.
The V-Cableway has proved its worth in its first year of operation, as the frequent positive feedback shows. Be it the seat- and window heating system and the WiFi in the cabins of the Eiger Express or the heated ski depots and modern toilet facilities in the Grindelwald Terminal. The quick access to the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe is impressive. All guests appreciate the comfort and quality that this offers.
Two prizes for the V-Cableway project
It is therefore not surprising that Jungfrau Railways received two prizes for the V-Cableway project this year. The special prize of the Swiss Mobility Award FLUX was awarded for the new Grindelwald Terminal with direct public transport connection to train and bus. The various shopping and gastronomy facilities in the terminal make travelling by public transport much more attractive. And Jungfrau Railways received the Swiss Mountain Award from “Seilbahnen Schweiz” because, according to the jury, the project set a new standard for mountain railways in the areas of convenience, design, guest guidance and logistics.
All this is to be celebrated. Guests in the Grindelwald Terminal receive a 10% discount on their purchases in the shops. Hunger and thirst can be satisfied at the food truck, the bar container and the e-tron energy bar. DJ Flink provides musical entertainment on Terminal Square, the square between the terminal and the multi-storey car park.
Christmas tree and concert by the Swiss soul singer Seven
For the first time, a nine-metre-high Christmas tree will tower towards the terminal roof. But it is not only the size of the tree that is impressive: 24 hand-painted Christmas baubles are on the tree along with other Christmas decorations. These are being sold exclusively for the benefit of the charity Kinderhilfe Sternschnuppe. The baubles were hand-painted by architect and designer Francesca Alder of Bofor Design. The numbered baubles can be purchased online at a price for CHF 200. All proceeds will be donated by Jungfrau Railways to the Sternschnuppe children's charity.
On Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe guests will find again the highest Christmas tree in Europe in a wonderland of ice and snow.
The musical highlight on Saturday was the Swiss soul singer Seven with a concert on the "Terminal Square" with a view of the Eiger and Eiger Express.
His innovation and creativity over a 17-year career perfectly suits the V-Cableway generation project, which Jungfrau Railways director Urs Kessler describes as the "most innovative project in the Alps".
