FIS Appoints Engadine Region As Host Of Freestyle Ski, Snowboard And Freeski World Championships 2025
Multiple destinations such as Arosa (ski cross), Laax (snowboard freestyle), Scuol (snowboard alpine), Silvaplana (freeski and snowboard slopestyle) and Veysonnaz (ski cross and snowboard cross) have been an integral part of the FIS Freestyle World Cup calendar for years. In four years from now - with the Upper Engadine as a host – a joint FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championship will take place for the first time ever in Switzerland.
Daniel Schaltegger, as head of the Ski Freestyle & Snowboard Worldchampionship 2025 bid project, was delighted: "It’s a moment of joy for the Engadin, the canton of Graubünden and the snowsports nation of Switzerland! The Engadin St. Moritz region may once again prepare for a major international winter sports event - in keeping with its tourism DNA and its sports history legacy. This World Championships and its global impact offer a great opportunity to align together for the future and a new, younger, global snowsports community."
For the 2025 FIS Freestyle World Championships, the federal government, the canton of Graubünden, a total of 12 Engadine communities, as well as the Upper Engadine mountain railways form a competent stakeholder network that offers wide support and meets all FIS requirements for a candidacy.
