Ski Dubai Hosts Inaugural DXB Snow Week In Collaboration With Dubai Sports Council

Ski Dubai has hosted a series of events in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council as part of the inaugural DXB Snow Week. The weekend’s schedule of events included the Return to Safe Sport’ Competition, which was one of the first snow sports competitions in the world to be held with social distancing measures in place, and the Dubai Snow Run. As well as attracting over 400 participants, the event was attended by 40 media outlets and generated international media attention.

The ‘Return to Safe Sport’ competition was held over the course of a day with racers, freestyle skiers and snowboarders competing in four disciplines – slalom, giant slalom, slopestyle and big air. The weekend’s event culminated in an awards ceremony, in which winners from the weekend’s events were presented with medals as well as a selection of prizes by representatives from Ski Dubai and Dubai Sports Council. The Dubai Snow Run saw over 300 participants from 46 countries run 3.5km (3 laps) in the snow (-4 degrees) at Ski Dubai. This first-of-a-kind event received an overwhelming response from the sports-loving community and registration closed early because the event sold out. 

Speaking about the event, Mohammed El Etri said, “Events such as DXB Snow Week are key to encouraging guests to safely return to Ski Dubai and sports following months of temporary closures. We have hosted one of the first snow sports competition since the Covid-19 closures, showing the rest of the world that, when the right measures are in place, business and sporting events can safely resume. DXB Snow Week is also aligned with our goals to make the UAE and Ski Dubai an international destination for sport and consolidates our commitment to support the UAE’s efforts of encouraging an active lifestyle.”

His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council added, “We were extremely proud to collaborate with Ski Dubai on this unique and first-of-its kind event given our shared vision to put snow sports in Dubai on a global stage. Events such as Dubai Snow Week encourage young athletes to develop their skills and elevate the UAE’s stature when it comes to snow sports internationally.”
