Olympic Inspections Taking Place In Beijing
A delegation of 27 International Federation Technical experts traveled to Beijing (CHN) to hold the technical inspections for the Olympic Winter Games 2022 and for this winter's Olympic Test Events.
It is believed to be the first time that all seven Winter Federations carried out their technical inspections at the same time, but it allowed a more streamline travel process in light of the various Covid-19 travel restrictions.
All six FIS disciplines were represented by the respective Race Directors, who took the opportunity to meet directly with the Chinese Organisers to discuss the details of this winter's Test Events, which will include World Cup competitions in Alpine (women), Cross Country, Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping. Additionally, the FIS Freestyle, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships will serve as the Test Event for the Beijing 2022 venues.
In addition the meetings, the technical officials had the opportunity to walk through the completed venues and provide any feedback for minor adjustments before the snow starts falling for this winter's Test Events.
Nordic Combined Race Director Lasse Ottesen was impressed with the facilities in Beijing: "It was truly impressive to see the jumping hill and cross-country stadium in their finished shape and form. We are curently having productive meetings with the Local Organising Committee which will benefit us greatly for the test events and Olympic Games to come."
The entire delegation flew to Beijing on the same plane and then were divided into separate bubbles according to the venues they needed to inspect. The group will come back together again at the end of the week to fly home as group.
