Green Up With Protest
Protest is a small Dutch company and as a small company change is challenging. It will take time and effort but they are determined to will to do their part to make things better. This means learning a whole new way of doing things. From production to the fabrics they use in garments. To make this challenge in sustainability attainable they will break up our journey into blocks. Each block will be a stepping stone on a path to sustainability, each block building on the other, block upon block, until they have Greened Up.
We’re all talking about sustainability but what does that actually mean? It means living sustainably, meeting our needs today without compromising the needs of future generations. So that’s what protest is going to do, find a way to produce sustainably to ensure a better tomorrow.
This winter Protest challenged their athletes. One of the ‘blocks’ that make up their path to sustainability is creating awareness through Protest’s own reach. So they asked their team riders to really think about what they can do for the habitats they love and how they can help to make people more conscious of what is happening to the earth.
The ideas were awesome. Protest will follow Camille, Enzo, Andri, Gian and Roderick on their Green Up adventures and will share the resulting content through all their social media channels from December till February. Three months, three adventures.
Keep an eye on Protest’s landings page: www.protest.eu/green-up, where they will release all projects. Watch out for what is sure to become inspiring content forming part of their journey to Green Up.
Release dates for Green Up challenges:
- December 2020 - A Green Clean Up. Snowboarder Camille Armand and skier Enzo Scotto, both have the good fortune to come from Chamonix, a natural wonderland and snow mecca. But the popularity of this beautiful location has also led to the accumulation of litter left behind by outdoor enthusiasts. The friends’ plan takes them hiking along their beloved trails leading up the mountains and collecting rubbish as they go. On the way, they will also help clean and prepare the mountain refuges they come across. Usually the rubbish that is created and collected on the mountain is brought down by helicopter – which uses petrol and creates noise pollution. So Camille and Enzo had another good idea, which would also increase environmental awareness. This idea was ending their adventure by paragliding the collected rubbish down the mountain – a very green mode of transport.
- January 2021 - Green Up Essentials. Protest freestyle skiers, Gian and Andri Ragettli are living the dream, with all types of modern comforts at their fingertips. But they are aware that their lifestyles leave a footprint. The brothers’ Green Up idea was to find out just how little they actually need in order to survive in the wilderness. They go into the woods with only the bare essentials. The brothers want to make a difference. Step by step they are evaluating what they can do to live more sustainably. One step on their journey is becoming vegetarian, doing their own small part in reducing the impact that the meat industry is having on the environment.
- February 2021 - Green Up North. The Northern lights are an awe-inspiring natural phenomenon that are becoming less visible due to light and air pollution. Roderick will travel north to Lofoten, Norway, where he will hopefully be able to take in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Northern lights. While he is there he will also surf some of the best cold waves in the north. Roderick says ‘’It is my mission to contribute my part to make people aware of our effect on the environment”. On his journey he will talk to locals about their own challenges and efforts to Green Up. He will travel there as sustainably as possible, either by electric car or sailing. Or both.
