Thomas Gerken-schofield Makes GB Sporting History In Russia World Cup

Thomas Gerken-Schofield put his name in the history books on Saturday when he became the first ever British athlete to get a world cup medal in the discipline of moguls.

Thomas, who was born in Chelmsford in Essex, came in second place to take silver in Krasnoyarsk, Russia and said: "I managed to put down the skiing I have been working on with my coach. It paid off. I made history for Great Britain, being the first ever GB athlete to achieve a medal on World Cup moguls event. I was very proud to represent my country on the second step of the podium - a massive thank you to everyone that has made this possible."

The 22 year old did admit: "This season has been hard. With a 4th place in China (dual moguls) I set my objectives higher. I felt more and more capable of a World Cup podium. I struggled to get my skiing in place but I knew if I skied the way I wanted to that I would be close."

"During the North American tour I made super finals in Deer Valley (top 6) Single moguls. I was feeling more and more confident with my skiing. Japan and Kazakhstan was a challenge, I couldn’t get my skiing in place and then the Russian event in Krasnoyarsk happened and I managed to get the podium finish I have been chasing. I am excited to now to use this as a platform for future events."

Gerken-Schofield was beaten narrowly by Canada's Mikael Kingsbury in the super final to pick up his ninth straight World Cup overall moguls title.
