Mt. Hood Meadows Continues Daily Operations As Scheduled, Some Events Cancelled
Mt. Hood Meadows has announced it will continue daily operations as scheduled for the rest of the season, however some events will be cancelled amidst Coronavirus concerns. V.P. of Sales and Marketing Dave Tragethon says, “At this time we do not expect disruptions to our scheduled daily operations. But we are cancelling certain events in compliance with Oregon Governor Kate Brown’s ban on events that attract 250 or more people.”
This weekend’s Spring Demo days and next weekend's Spring Brewfest have been cancelled, along with the Pride Day event scheduled for April 11. In addition, USSA (United States Ski and Snowboard Association) has canceled all remaining ski racing events - including the Candy Cup finals this Sunday and next weekend’s Evergreen Cup. These were major race competitions involving hundreds of young competitors.
Also canceled is this week’s OISA State High School Snowboard Championships at Mt. Hood Meadows. The first two events were held Wednesday and Thursday, but the Slopestyle and Halfpipe events scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been cancelled.
Meadows is scheduled to operate daily through April 19 with some added weekends until May 2. Tragethon noted that, “Governor Brown has clarified that for now the limitation only applies to organized events with over 250 people in one place. It doesn’t apply to normal business operations like stores and malls which allows us to continue operations.” Meadows is expecting over a foot of snow this weekend, adding to a base depth of 108 inches and 163 inches at mid-mountain - plenty of snow to continue operations for the rest of the season.
Tragethon says Meadows has and will continue to take precautions recommended by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) to mitigate coronavirus concerns, saying, “We’ve procured additional hand sanitation stations that are located throughout the lodge spaces. We’ve stepped up our disinfecting routines with more frequent wipe downs of surfaces in public areas. We are educating our team and our guests about preventative measures - with an emphasis on frequent and vigorous hand washing. We’ve also made it very clear to our team that we encourage them to stay home if they experience symptoms - particularly fever, cough and shortness of breath - or other cold or flu symptoms.”
