National Association Support Confirmed After Approval Of FIS Accounts For 2018-2019 Period
As a result of the postponement of the FIS Congress in May 2020, the audited FIS Accounts for the period 1st January 2018 to 31st December 2019 were sent to the National Ski Associations (NSA) for their approval in writing instead of waiting until the scheduled Congress on 4th October, and they were unanimously adopted by the given deadline of 1stJuly.
The two-year 2018-2019 financial period resulted in a positive surplus of CHF 11.6 million, of which the Council proposed that CHF 11 million is allocated to the National Ski Associations as a Special Distribution for the Promotion of Skiing, paid in 2020 and 2021. The system for the amounts calculated for each NSA reflects their level of activity with FIS. The three elements considered are the active registered athletes per FIS discipline and gender, organisation of FIS competitions and participation at the previous FIS Alpine and Nordic World Ski Championships.
FIS President Gian Franco Kasper stated: "Despite the current uncertainty and consequently the need for caution with the FIS finances, we have protected the National Ski Association financial support and prioritised obtaining statutory approval of the FIS Accounts for the 2018-2019 period to enable payments to be made to our members. They face the same challenges with funding, and we are very pleased to have communicated the Special Distribution for the Promotion of Skiing to the member Associations to assist maintain ongoing activities”.
The audited FIS Accounts for each year and financial period and National Association Financial Support calculation and payments are published on the FIS website.
