Reconstruction Work Finishes At Ski Jumping Stadium For Oberstdorf 2021
Local ski jumping star, triple World Champion and Olympic silver medallist Katharina Althaus was the first to make a jump in the newly overhauled Audi Arena in Oberstdorf, which will host the ski jumping competitions of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2021.
Oberstdorf’s Mayor Klaus Kling, Deputy Allgäu District Administrator Roman Haug, German Ski Association President Dr. Franz Steinle and Florian Stern, CEO of the Audi Arena in Oberstdorf were on site for a small ceremony at the end of July.
With Althaus’ beautiful inauguration jump of 120 metres, training resumed at the five ski jumping hills in Oberstdorf after more than a year of reconstruction work.
Training groups from the youngsters of the Oberstdorf Ski Club up to the World Cup athletes from the German Ski Association have been on site almost every day to make use of the pristine hills. The first international teams are already completing their training courses in Oberstdorf in preparation for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2021.
"After such a long construction phase we are happy that all five hills in the arena are now finally ready for training and competitions again," said Florian Stern. “Everyone involved gave their all to complete this project and we’d like to express our thanks to all of them.”
Not only top athletes will benefit from the reconstruction work, as the smaller HS25 and HS42 hills are now also ready for younger and up-and-coming jumpers.
"With this modernised facility, Oberstdorf is not only ready for the World Championships 2021, but it is now also a training centre for young jumpers as well as world and Olympic champions in the upcoming years", Stern concluded.
