Kitzbuhel Modernizing The Aschauer Ache Snowmaking Water Intake
Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel will modernize the Aschauer Ache water intake. This covers more than 65 percent of the water required for snow-making in the core ski area. A new pumping station is also being built in the vicinity of the Aschauer Ache. The delivery capacity of the existing Röhrmoos pumping station will be increased. The goals of these construction measures are to feed the existing storage lakes and to further improve the slope quality of the runs in the core ski area Pengelstein - Kirchberg - Hahnenkamm.
Kitzbühel / Kirchberg. Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel is investing around € 1.2 million in the modernization and renovation of the Aschauer Ache water intake in the Kirchberg municipal area.
Mag. Anton Bodner, CEO of Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel, explains why the construction project is of great importance. “With the planned modernization and renovation measures, we can make better use of the ever shorter time slots for snow-making. We use resources sparingly, gently and responsibly. All construction measures for the mountain railway are planned and carried out with a view to sustainability, i.e. in harmony with nature. Everyone benefits from this, and in the end our guests enjoy the usual excellent slope quality for which our ski area is known worldwide, ”says Anton Bodner. The pleasant side effect of the modernization measures: The amount of the mandatory water (doping water) is increased.
Florian Wörgetter, technical director of Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel, gave an insight into the scope of the planned construction work, which meets all official requirements. “Parts of the existing operating facility are being restructured in order to optimally arrange the technical components and coordinate them with one another. The desander and pump chamber are enlarged. The existing intake structure is only slightly adapted. All work in the Aschauer Ache is reduced to a minimum, ”explains Florian Wörgetter. With the new pumping station ─ the heart of the technically controlled snowmaking ─, it is also possible to meet the requirements in terms of energy efficiency. In addition, the filters and UV systems for treating the water in the existing Röhrmoos pumping station will be renewed and the control system adapted so that this pumping station can also pump 25 percent more water.
With its 234 kilometers of descents, 57 lifts, 1,130 snow guns and outstanding slope management, the KitzSki 2020 ski area was recognized as the world's best ski area for the eighth time in a row. The nine summer lifts are popular among athletes, nature lovers and connoisseurs. Hikers, mountain bikers and downhillers appreciate the diverse offer. Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel generated sales of around € 55 million in the past financial year, with an EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) of € 6 million. Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel employs more than 500 people in winter.
