Norwegian Ski Association Lays Off More Than Half Of Staff. Losses of More Than 30Mil Krone
The board of the Norwegian Ski Federation and an internally organised crisis committee have now reviewed and mapped the serious situation for the Ski Federation.
The epidemic Covid-19 has, as is known, caused all activity to be stopped, and as a consequence of this, a layoff notice for full or partial layoffs has been sent to 96 employees in the organization. This is 66 per cent of those with an employmeesof the Ski Federation. The layoffs are valid from March 30 and it has not been decided how long the layoff will last. Administrative and sporting management, as well as the ski board, have individually implemented pay cuts and board fees.
The Norwegian Ski Federation has had major financial losses in recent weeks and March is the peak season for the association. The losses so far amount to almost NOK 30 million. In addition, uncertainty is linked to planned revenues exceeding NOK 20 million. Therefore, the last few days have cut about NOK 50 million from the original budget in 2020. All travel and collections were last week stopped until further notice. This includes all branches and the administration of the Ski Association.
"The situation for the Ski Federation is very serious, and I cannot rule out the need for further measures to ensure the operation when the state of emergency is one day over, said Secretary General Ingvild Bretten Berg.
"The goal now is to take quick enough measures to secure jobs so that we can resume normal operations and continue as normal as possible when this is over, We have talented and committed employees in the Ski Federation. In a difficult time not only for us, but also for many around us, it is important to take care of each other as best we can, added the Secretary General.
