Ischgl Responds To Coronavirus Criticism....Says Not Very Much
It's fair to say that the job of selling travel to Ischgl next season might not be the easiest of career choices. The resort has been widely criticised for being a major source of the Coronavirus infection and accused of covering up the extent of the problem. Things have, as they say 'gone legal' with accusations of negligence and class action claims being prepared.
The resort has been named by outlets such as the New York Times and CNN as a significant factor in the spread of the virus..Ischgl was dubbed a ‘breeding ground’ for coronavirus by German media. Nicknamed ‘Ibiza of the Alps’, the party hotspot was connected to hundreds of cases in Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Austria and Germany. Now it is being investigated for negligence after prosecutors alleged authorities at the resort turned a blind eye to cases because they feared reporting them would damage their tourist business.
Now at some point you'd expect a stament from the resort... and we have one. SIN wonders if the author was channeling Ronan Keating as they typed, perhaps listening to 'When You Say Nothing at All'. Here it is in all of it's detail.
"Dear guests, fans, colleagues & friends,
"We have been massively criticized for the corona pandemic since the early end of the season.
"We have read each and every one of your messages & comments, criticisms, encouragements & wishes and will take them to heart.
"In the past few weeks we have looked after the well-being and health of our guests, employees and locals who were and are still on site – now we want to dedicate ourselves to you.
"The corona virus has put us in an unprecedented exceptional situation. In the past few weeks, we have implemented all the necessary measures step by step.
"Despite our efforts, many have been infected with the virus on site – we wish all those affected all the best and a speedy recovery.
"Like the rest of the world, we now have more answers and experience than we did 6 weeks ago – we want to learn from this for the future.
"We are happy to inform you about it!
"Best regards."
So that's alright then....
