La Rosiere Promotes To Freeride Clientele
Located in the Haute Tarentaise Valley, linked with La Thuile in Italy, La Rosière gets exceptional snowfall. During winter 2018, la Rosière-Espace San Bernardo area accumulated more than 11m of snow. Only a few kilometers as the crow flies from the Mont Blanc and the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, the resort benefits from favourable weather conditions which guarantee an excellent snowfall from mid-December until end of April and makes it the resort with the highest snowfall in France.
There are many areas where freeriders can enjoy all this fresh snow. The ski area of La Rosière Espace San Bernando grew in December 2018 with the opening of the new Mont Valaisan sector. Located on the French side of the ski area, this investment of 15 million euros created 5 new red pistes, accessible by 2 detachable 6 person chairlifts, but the extension also provides more technical skiing and new freeride possibilities.
Starting from the Roc Noir and heading towards les Ecudets, the Zittieux Snow cross area is a non-groomed but secured offpiste area, offering competent skiers the opportunity to discover the feeling of freedom. All users should be equipped with a shovel, probe and avalanche transceiver, and should consult the ski patrol before setting out to check the conditions.
New for winter 2019-20
Evolution 2 ski school has launched a transceiver park this winter, in partnership with La Rosière ski area. Located at the top of the Roches Noires chairlift, at the entrance to the Zittieux Freeride area, it allows off-piste enthusiast to come and practice avalanche victim searches. A real tool for off-piste risk prevention and awareness, the transceiver park has 8 beacons that are buried and useable all winter. Evolution 2 offers introductory one-hour group sessions for clients for €25.
