Sunday River Resort Plans Opening Day - Saturday, November 9
Sunday River Resort intends to open for the 2019/20 winter season on Saturday, November 9. The resort expects to open at 8:00AM and offer terrain off of the Locke Mountain Triple in Barker Basin. All opening day plans depend on weather and snow conditions. The resort will post updates to the Mountain Report on sundayriver.com and its social media channels.
Sunday River’s snowmakers started up the snowguns in the early morning hours on Saturday, November 2, blasting the Upper Sunday Punch, Sunday Punch, Lower Sunday Punch, Jim’s Whim, Ecstasy, Jungle Road, Cascades, and T2 trails. Snowmaking has continued since then as temperatures have allowed.
As a first step towards doubling its snowmaking capabilities, Sunday River increased water capacity by 15 percent for the 2018/19 season with upgrades that included the replacement of nearly two miles of pipe from the river to the resort, as well as a new 600-horsepower pump. Skiers and snowboarders can expect to see the results of an additional 10 percent increase in snowmaking capacity for the 2019/20 season, thanks to four new 500-horsepower pumps also installed at the snowmaking pond. The ski area can now pump up to 10,000 gallons of water per minute.
“With increased snowmaking capacity comes increased production,” says Resort President and General Manager, Dana Bullen. “We’re committed to providing an excellent snow surface for our guests, and with the work our Mountain Operations team has been doing to prepare for opening day, I’m certain we’ll deliver.”
Lift tickets will be $39 and available to purchase at the Barker Lodge. All 2019/20 New England Passes will be available to purchase or pick up in the Welcome Center at South Ridge Lodge.
Weather permitting, Sunday River expects to open on Saturday and Sunday, then close again Monday through Thursday, and reopen the following Friday for daily operations.
