Candidates For 2024 & 2025 FIS World Championships Announced
FIS is pleased to announce the receipt of a total of six applications to be Candidates for the organisation of the FIS World Championships in 2024 and 2025. By the May 1st 2019 deadline, the following candidacies were received:
- Three applications for the 2025 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships submitted by Crans Montana (SUI), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) and Saalbach (AUT)
- One application for the 2025 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships submitted by Trondheim (NOR)
- One application for the 2025 FIS Freestyle, Snowboard & Freeski World Championship submitted by Krasnoyarsk (RUS)
- One application for the 2024 FIS Ski Flying World Championship submitted by Harrachov (CZE)
"FIS is very pleased to see such high in the interest to organise our flagship events. All of the Candidates have the potential and experience to organise events at the highest levels and we anticipate their bids to be very diverse for the FIS World Championships in 2025," commented FIS President Gian Franco Kasper.
Project review with FIS Inspection Group
A first briefing with the Candidates will take place during the FIS Calendar Conference in Catvat-Dubrovnik (CRO), the last week of May. Their detailed concept for the project is due by 1st September 2019 based on a specific FIS Questionnaire to enable direct comparisons, containing details such as plans for sports organisation, venue and facilities, legacy, workforce and volunteers, sustainability and environment, and accommodation, transportation, security, commercial rights and marketing, broadcast operations and media services, communications and promotion, ceremonies, spectator services, the ski festival, legal aspects, organisation structure and financing.
The FIS Inspection Group, led by FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis, will support and guide the Candidates during the preparation of their projects. . Thereafter a formal meeting with each of the Candidates will take place during the FIS Technical Committee Meetings in early October in Zurich (SUI), after which each Candidate will finalise its concept for the FIS World Championships. The FIS Inspection Group report will then be compiled on the basis of the Candidates’ submissions and observations of the members. In April 2020, the Candidate Questionnaire and FIS Inspection Group report will be published and distributed to the National Ski Associations, Technical Committee chairs and the FIS Council.
Election by FIS Council May 2020
The FIS Council will elect the Organisers of the FIS World Championships 2025 at the 52nd International Ski Congress in Royal Cliff (THA). During the FIS Congress week, each Candidate will have a chance to present their candidatures to the extended FIS family and discuss their plans from their exhibition stands. They will also describe their World Championship visions to the respective Technical Committees, before the final presentation to the FIS Council during the Congress week.
