Idre Fjall Race Provides Best Results Of The Season For British Athlete Jan Farrell

British number one and world number six speed skier, Jan Farrell achieved his best results of the season over two days racing in Idre Fjäll, Sweden.

During the World Cup S1 category races, the highest level of speed skiing competition, Farrell secured 5^th and 8^th place during a tough and competitive round on the World’s steepest groomed marked run.

Italian Simone Origone topped the podium both days with a speed of 166.15 KPH (Friday March 8) and 177.79 KPH (Saturday March 9) with Billy Simon (France) and Manuel Kramer (Austria) managing second and third place respectively on both days.

Farrell hit tops speeds of 162.03 KPH and 171.68 KPH over the two days racing and he said: “A 5^th and an 8^th place in Idre Fjäll give me power for the rest of the season. It’s a good result and I feel like I’m skiing stronger and harder than ever. But I’m lacking some reliability, not all the runs have been solid, I’ve got some work to do. Now I’m looking forward to the final two events of the season, in Vars, France and then the World Cup finals in Andorra.”

The Swedish National Speed Skiing Championships took place on March 6 before the World Cup races started, with an international field seeing Farrell place on the podium with third place (fastest time 174.74 KPH). Simone Origone won the race with a speed of 179.11 with Manuel Kramer in second with a speed of 178.94.

The women’s competition, also held over the same time period, saw Valentina Greggio (Italy) in first place during the initial race on the 8^th with a time of 159.05 KPH and Britta Backlund (Sweden) taking top spot on the 9^th with a time of 173.76 KPH.
