Sufferfest Beer Co. Adds Pro Skier Cody Townsend To Athlete Team
Sufferfest, a functional beer brand brewed by athletes, for athletes, proudly adds professional skier Cody Townsend to its team of sufferers. Townsend is the first skier to join the team.
“The energy and enthusiasm Cody brings to skiing and everyday life embodies the Sufferfest ethos,” said Sufferfest CEO and Founder Caitlin Landesberg. “Long time friend of the business, we’re so excited to formally welcome him to the team and help support his goals—from mild to wild—the Sufferfest way.”
In his decade of being a big-mountain skier, Townsend has constantly pushed the limits of fun and adventure. From skiing what some have called “the most insane ski line ever” to adventuring in the Arctic and hanging in the backcountry with his buds, he represents what skiing was meant to be: A journey of exploration and relentless passion in the company of friends. Townsend has been recognized and awarded a number of accolades, including Powder Magazine’s Line of the Year in 2014.
“Sufferfest is an ideal partner for me because it combines two things I enjoy most, being outdoors and enjoying a frosty brew at the end of the day,” said Townsend. “Their focus on athletes, dedication to quality for those athletes, and creating products that are enjoyable and beneficial, makes me proud to be an athlete for Sufferfest.”
Townsend joins ultra, trail, and obstacle runners Amelia Boone, Cat Bradley, Morgan Sjogren, Paddy O’Leary, Rob Steger, Amy Leedham, and climber Lindsey Tjian on the Sufferfest athlete team—each recognized for their grit and balance.
Sufferfest has a unique process to bring new athletes (and employees) on board. “We ask ourselves ‘Would we drink a beer with this person?’ Landesberg shares. “Our athletes are an incredible mix of passionate and genuine people that seek value in every element of their lives. That’s what Sufferfest is all about.”
The beer company resonates with the athletic set due to its fitness-friendly benefits; Landesberg disrupted the beer industry in 2016 when she created the new category of functional beer.
Sufferfest introduced their newest “Beer with Benefits” in 2018—FKT Pale Ale and Repeat Kolsch—both of which feature additional benefits. Inspired by athletes but brewed for anyone, the FKT contains blackcurrant and sodium as a nod to the needs of a post-sweat. The Repeat Kolsch harnesses the power of added bee pollen and weighs in at just 95 calories, 5 carbs, and 3.5% ABV.
All of the brand’s award-winning brews are also gluten-removed.
