Strong Ski Halfpipe Results Boost GB To Fourth Overall In Freeski Junior World Championships

Great Britain has wrapped up its Freeski Junior World Championships campaign with four more top 10 results to round out an outstanding overall performance from the squad.

While Kirsty Muir (9th) and Connie Brogden (10th) just missed out on the female halfpipe final, Zoe Atkin qualified through to the last eight and finished seventh earlier today in her only event in New Zealand.

In the male ski halfpipe, Sam Ward and Sam Gaskin both finished inside the top 10 to qualify for today’s 12-man final. Ward ultimately finished in eighth place for the best-ever British male ski halfpipe result at World Juniors, while Gaskin was 11th.

MARC HODLER TROPHY

The Marc Hodler Trophy is awarded to the overall champion nation throughout the Junior World Championships. The freestyle skiing trophy incorporated carryover points from April’s Moguls Junior Worlds in Sweden.

On the back of 12 top ten results in New Zealand – including ski cross medals to Ollie Davies (1st) and Elliane Hall (3rd) – and two more moguls top tens, Great Britain stamped its credentials as one of the best all-round nations.

Russia were the standout winners on 121 points ahead of USA in second (97pts). Japan (58pts) won a tight race for third, while strong halfpipe results today saw Great Britain (55pts) leapfrog highly-fancied Sweden (53pts) and Canada (48pts) to rise from sixth to fourth place.
