Ski, Skateboard And Snowboard Athletes Are Ready To Go Big This Week At X Games Norway 2018

Monster Energy’s team of world-class athletes is ready to compete at X Games Norway 2018 in Oslo and Fornebu this coming weekend. The high-profile snow sports event – also featuring a pro skateboarding competition – gets underway May 18–20.

Now in its third consecutive year, X Games Norway will bring together the world’s best action sports athletes in freestyle skiing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. With live coverage courtesy of ESPN and NRK in Norway, the three-day event will feature action sports competitions and musical performances headlined by hip-hop artist Lil' Yachty.

Monster Energy’s stacked roster of snowboard, skateboard, and free ski athletes is ready to compete for X Games medals and bring the stoke to Oslo in this premier action sports competition.

In a continuous effort to keep the level of riding elite, X Games Norway 2018 is once again an invite-only event reserved for multiple-time X Games medalists and upcoming pros. Key invited Monster Energy athletes to keep an eye on include:

In Men’s Snowboard Big Air look out for Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot who has been dominating these past years with signature moves like the highly technical quadruple underflip 1620. After winning gold in Snowboard Big Air at X Games Aspen 2018 in January, Parrot now holds the most Big Air gold and overall medals in X Games Snowboard history (4 gold, 3 silver). Also keep an eye on Swedish rider Sven Thorgren, who took home gold in Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle at X Games Norway 2017. Also bringing the heat to OBOS Big Air Arena in Fornebu on Saturday, Belgian freestylist Sebbe de Buck will unleash his switch-stance moves onto the big ramp.

When it’s time for the Women’s Snowboard Big Air contest, the woman to beat will be 15-time X Games medalist and Olympic gold medalist J amie Anderson. Now officially the most decorated woman in X Games history, she claimed gold in Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle and bronze in Snowboard Big Air at X Games Aspen 2018. Anderson is currently tied with Mark McMorris for the second-most X Games Snowboard podiums, behind Shaun White (18) and is looking to catch up in Oslo.

In Men’s Ski Big Air, Henrik Harlaut is a favorite after taking gold in Big Air at X Games Aspen 2018 and X Games Norway 2017. He is currently tied for third-most X Games Ski medals of all-time, and has prepared some spectacular moves for the crowd at OBOS Big Air Arena in Fornebu on Saturday. Also one to watch is his Monster Energy teammate James Woods who took bronze at X Games Aspen this January and has been training in Norway for the past week.

Also get ready for awe inspiring moves in Women’s Ski Big Air courtesy of Maggie Voisin, who became the only American to medal in women’s Ski Big Air by taking bronze at X Games Norway 2017 and is the only US athlete on the roster this year.

She will be joined by Monster Energy teammate and Swiss rookie pro Giulia Tanno, known for technical moves like switch 1080s and winning bronze in Women’s Ski Big Air at X Games Aspen 2017. Also keep an eye out for 2016 Ski Big Air X Games bronze medalist and 2015 Slopestyle gold winner Emma Dåhlstrom from Sweden, who returns after missing the podium last year.

Bringing a healthy dose of street sports into the mix, Skateboard Street returns to Oslo after having made its debut in 2016. This year, reigning Street League Skateboarding Super Crown Champion and 13-time X Games medalist Nyjah Huston will unfortunately have to pass on his invitation while still recovering from a knee injury. All eyes will be on 22-year old rookie pro Kevin Baekkel from Hamar, Norway: Fresh off a heavy video part for his board sponsor Creature Skateboards, the all-round talent made a name for himself two years ago in Thrasher magazine’s “King of the Road” competition. This Friday, Baekkel is ready to take on an elite set of international street skaters at Skur 13 warehouse in Filipstad Harbor near downtown Oslo.
