PSIA/AASI Recaps Three Spectacular Spring Events

The past spring marked several milestones for PSIA-AASI, including the largest National Academy in association history, the 50th anniversary of the only Interski ever held on U.S. snow, and the second anniversary of the triumphant return of AASI Rider Rally.

Here is a quick look back at those three events, and how they continued to strengthen the bond between instructors from around the country.

National Academy: One Team, One Exceptional Learning Experience
PSIA-AASI National Academy 2018 in Big Sky, MT, set a new record of more than 400 attendees, coaches, and staff at the event. “It’s fitting that the biggest Academy of all time also takes place at the biggest skiing and riding in all of America,” PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling, said at the beginning of the event. “This year’s Academy represents a true culmination of the history of education at the heart of our association, including several previous Team members who have helped us realize our benchmarks in education and instruction over the years.”

After Academy ended, Schuiling added that, “With the encouragement of a ‘one team’ inter-discipline concept anchored through the work of the 2012-16 team presenting the Learning Connection at the 2015 Interski in Ushuaia, this academy solidified the concept of one team even more.”

Rider Rally 2018: Eric Rolls Provides the Day 4 Highlights
The AASI Rider Rally hit Colorado’s Arapahoe Basin in early May, offering several days of incredible shredding and education with AASI Snowboard Team members and snowboarding colleagues from coast to coast. Snowboard Team member Eric Rolls said, “Day 4 was full of plenty of options to exercise the brain and body. The Elements of Style clinic was widely popular, as riders cleaned up some tricks and maneuvers while adding style.” Read all the highlights here.

Aspen Interski Anniversary Celebrates 50 Years of U.S. Innovation
PSIA-AASI members from across the country gathered in Aspen in early April to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Interski, the only time the international snowsports instructors congress has been held on U.S. snow.

1968 PSIA Team alumni joined current and former Team members and educational leaders for a day of touring the original 1968 demonstration slope (where there is a plaque honoring the 1968 Team), impromptu synchronized skiing demonstrations and interviews, followed by a reception with movies and presentations at Aspen’s Limelight Hotel.
