Final Countdown Is On To The 2018 British National Alpine Ski Championships In Tignes
With the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics all wrapped up and the final World Cup and Europa Cup races concluding on the weekend, a huge season of alpine skiing is drawing to a close, however all eyes will be on the French resort of Tignes next week when the British National Alpine Ski Championships kick off.
The event returns to Tignes for the fourth straight year, starting with the Senior and Junior Championships from Sunday 25 March to Sunday 1 April before the Children’s Championships and minis races from Monday 2 to Friday 6 April.
Also returning for the third year running will be disability races on Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April, with a number of Paralympians expected to compete.
The headline acts at the Championships will be 2018 Olympians and Delancey British Alpine World Cup squad members Dave Ryding, Laurie Taylor, Charlie Guest and Alex Tilley. In addition to their individual performances, the quartet combined to finish equal-fifth in the inaugural mixed team event in PyeongChang, the second-best alpine skiing result in British Olympic history.
The PyeongChang Olympic quartet will be joined in Tignes by Delancey British Alpine Europa Cup squad members Charlie Raposo, Cara Brown, Billy Major and Nick Moynihan who will all be looking for their own slice of glory.
Hoping to bring down the more experienced campaigners will be members of the British Alpine Junior World Ski Championships squad which competed in Davos earlier this year, including Iain Innes, Zak Vinter, Jess Anderson and Abi Bruce.
“Following the success of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics earlier this year, the British National Alpine Championships provides an opportunity for the world to witness the best of Britain’s alpine athletes as they pursue their international medal-winning ambition,” said Jamie Ritblat, Founder and Chairman of Delancey.
“This annual world-class event brings together both able and disable bodied skiers alike, as well as the best young talents during the Children’s Championships, in what is an exciting, adrenaline-fuelled week for our younger athletes.
“I would like to wish all athletes competing the best of luck!”
The Championships will again be supported by, Snow-Camp. Eight apprentices from Snow-Camp will have the opportunity to be part of the on-snow team in Tignes over the two weeks, not only gaining valuable experience but also playing a vital role in helping organisers deliver a successful event.
"The ..British National Alpine Ski Championships is the biggest event on the British ski racing calendar and we're incredibly pleased to be involved again as charity partner,” said Dan Charlish, founder and director of Snow-Camp. “As a snowsports youth charity, we're passionate about using snowsports as a tool to engage inner-city young people to provide them with life-skills, qualifications and vocational opportunities.
“Eight of our young people will be volunteering at the Championships over both weeks, and it will be a life-changing experience for them. Going from inner-city London to the mountain environment will broaden their horizons and the event will provide them with fantastic work experience."
