Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa In Mammoth Lakes, California To Host Mammoth Food & Wine Experience,
Food and wine aficionados flock to Mammoth Lakes, California, every summer for the Mammoth Food & Wine Experience, a two-day celebration of the finest in dining and drinking, July 12-14, 2018, in one of the most exquisitely scenic landscapes in the country. As a longtime host for this entertaining showcase, Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa not only offers a unique perspective for attendees seeking insight into all things dining-related, but also provides an elegantly rustic and comfortable getaway that puts the emphasis on a relaxing and restful stay.
Now in its 8th year, Mammoth Food & Wine entices travelers looking for a unique food-and-wine experience in a remarkable setting. With the awe-inspiring landscape of California’s Mammoth Lakes area as backdrop, the family-owned Sierra Nevada Resort hosts the annual culinary extravaganza’s Grand Tasting on its spacious in-town property, which provides guests with quick access to the town of Mammoth Lakes, as well as such famed rugged must-see natural landmarks as the nearby Devils Postpile National Monument; Convict, Crowley and Mono lakes; and Yosemite National Park.
The Mammoth Food & Wine Experience is the Mammoth Lakes Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, with the proceeds supporting the Foundation’s mission of ensuring higher education and the arts in the Eastern Sierra. The Foundation was founded in 1989 by Dave McCoy, who also founded the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area (now known as Mammoth Resorts). This year’s event includes wine and tapas seminars, wine samplings from about 20 wineries at the Village in Mammoth during Friday’s Wine Walk, and the Saturday Grand Tasting at Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa, which will showcase more than 30 wineries, pouring tastings to pair with the gourmet fare cooked by 10 local chefs, including Sierra Nevada Resort’s own Executive Chef Jeremy Graham.
“Mammoth Food & Wine is an important showcase for the area, and we are proud to be a part of this longstanding tradition,” says Sierra Nevada Resort Managing Director Brent Truax. “Because we also emphasize offering the best food and wine in a welcoming and memorable setting at Sierra Nevada Resort, our mission to give guests an exceptional experience aligns perfectly with this event.”
After a day of educating the palate and sampling the best food and wine the region has to offer, guests can sink into the country-cozy mountain-lodge ambience of the friendly and attentive Sierra Nevada Lodge, with its hand-hewn alpine lobby bar featuring oversized fireplaces and hand-woven rugs. Overnight options include the delightfully appealing lodge rooms, as well as the extensively remodeled fireplace suites – with king-sized beds, resort-style kitchens accented by granite countertops, deep-soaking tubs in bathrooms with heated floors and toilet seats, and inviting leather chairs – and spacious condo-style chalets, each one a luxurious bi-level townhome accommodating 8-10 and offering views of Mammoth Mountain, as well as a well-stocked kitchen, expansive living room featuring a wood-burning fireplace, three warmly appointed bedrooms and three full-sized, marble-enhanced baths.
Beyond the excellent festival sips and tastings, the Sierra Nevada Resort includes three restaurants providing guests with three distinctive culinary experiences and an award-winning wine program overseen by Wine Director Chip Ermish. The stylishly rustic Rafters Restaurantis a repeat recipient of the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence – which referenced its “fresh approach to mountain-resort dining” – and serves innovative takes on seasonally inspired New American cuisine, while Jimmy’s Taverna, also a Best of Award of Excellence winner and named a Top Mountain Retreat by Wine Spectator, specializes in Mediterranean-inspired fresh seafood and wood-grilled meats, presented in a charmingly comfy dining room. Red Lantern offers authentic, made-from-scratch Chinese cuisine, with an extensive roster of inventive vegan and vegetarian options and a richly styled space.
“Mammoth Food & Wine Experience is the perfect summertime event, and we are thrilled to again partner with the Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa,” says Aleksandra Mendel of the Mammoth Lakes Foundation. “The location is ideal for an outdoor festival, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and efforts of resort staff to help make each year’s event bigger and better.”
Meanwhile, epic adventures await in the surrounding Eastern Sierra, with its magnificent mountains and plethora of pristine lakes. Summer activities abound in the region and include hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, boating, SUP, kayaking and canoeing, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, golfing, camping, off-roading, birding and hot springs. The knowledgeable and enthusiastic Sierra Nevada Resort staff is passionate about helping visitors to the area choose outdoor activities that meet their interests and skill levels. And after the day’s adventures, guests can soothe sore muscles at Mammoth Lakes’ only full-service spa, a peaceful retreat on-site at the resort that includes a sports-specific massage among its many restorative options.
