Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix On The Horizon
Only two weeks separates Ski Jumping fans from the Summer Grand Prix 2018.
The ski jumping ladies can look forward to Summer Grand Prix 2018 events in four countries with stops in Hinterzarten, Courchevel, Frenstat, Chaikovsky, and Klingenthal. Three of the events will be held on large hills. Of the competitions, one will be a mixed team event, while the competition in Hinterzarten will be a night event.
Nine different venues will host the male ski jumpers on a tour from Wisla (POL) to Klingenthal (GER) from late July until early October. Events are planned in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Japan, Russia, Romania and Austria. The calendar contains five night events: two in Wisla (POL), one each in Courchevel (FRA), Hakuba (JPN) and Chaikovsky (RUS). Besides individual events on normal and large hills, the athletes will also compete in one team and one mixed team event.
The Continental Cup Summer Grand Prix is already underway. Last weekend Kilian Peier (SUI) claimed the first win of the new season in Kranj (SLO) with jumps of 103 m and 105 m (277.6 points). Peier edged Evgeniy Klimov (RUS), who led after the first round. Germany's Felix Hoffmann finished third.
Only 15 hours after his first ever win in the Continental Cup, Peier was best again on Sunday. With jumps of 109.5 m and 109 m, the 23-year-old won ahead of Klimov and Stefan Huber (AUT)
The FIS Cup series was also back in action with two events for both ladies and men in Villach, (AUT). Local hero Chiara Hölzl was unbeatable in both ladies’ competitions, while Justin Nietzel (GER) and Luca Egloff (SUI) won on the men’s side.
