Oberstdorf Presents World Championship Logo

Exactly 946 days before start of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the official event logo was unveiled in Oberstdorf. The design is based on the FIS World Ski Flying Championship logo from past January. The stylised ski jumper in the big O (for Oberstdorf) has been joined by a cross-country skier and the logo shines in blue and red colours.

About 300 spectators came to the logo presentation in Oberstdorf’s Kurpark and three local Olympians acted as well-known ambassadors for the big event, which will take place in Oberstdorf from February 23rd to March 7th 2021. Ski jumper Katharina Althaus and Nordic Combined athletes Johannes Rydzek and Vinzenz Geiger are already looking forward to their home World Championships.

Even though all three were between kindergarten and age 13, they all remember the last World Championships held in Oberstdorf in 2005. Double Olympic champion Rydzek was especially inspired by the performances of Ronny Ackermann and Georg Späth, a foundation his own career was based on. “Just looking at the facilities today, the dedicated team that operates them and the population of Oberstdorf supporting this event, it’s a dream come true. A big event like the 2021 World Championships can only work as a cooperation of many”, the quadruple Lahti 2017 World Champion summed up.

Mayor Laurent Mies reported from the tremendous amount work being done leading up to the event. The city’s big goal is sustainability, to keep the facilities in good repair and offer excellent perspectives for high performance sports, now and in the future. District administrator Anton Klotz wished for the same fire of enthusiasm as back in 2005. The German Ski Federation’s President Dr Franz Steinle added that the 2005 championships carried two generations of athletes and that he hoped that the upcoming ones will do the same.
