FIS Studying Data Processing From Tour De France
Between two summer inspections, Race Director Emmanuel Couder was able to visit the Tour de France to learn more about their data and graphics processing.
During the warmer months, the race directors are visiting the different Audi FIS Ski World Cup sites to prepare the upcoming winter 2018/19, reviewing the course preparation and the organizational aspects together with the organizing committees. Emmanuel Couder, Race Director and men’s World Cup coordinator, is also working on another aspect of the World Cup: the data collection and its use for TV graphics.
To learn more about the process and analyze the different options, he visited the most important cycling race of the World, the Tour de France, during its stop in “La Rosière”. “The International Ski Federation is reflecting about the use of data, so I contacted Armaury Sport Organisation (ASO, the organizer of the Tour de France) to observe their data processing during the event,” said Emmauel Couder. “ASO is very advanced in that area and we can learn a lot from them,” he said.
The idea is to collect data during the race and to show it to public in real time via TV graphics. The results of this research could be very useful in order to improve the live alpine data system initiated with the World Cup’s data & timing partner Longines two years ago.
